I was a slow loser. Most of my monthly losses were single digit (1 to 7 pounds a month) and it took me 17 months to lose 100 pounds.

I've needed no plastics. Then again, other factors played roles such as genetics, age (30s), lower starting weight (218 pounds) and racial/ethnic background (I'm black).

My tits have lost volume, going from a 38C bra size down to a 34A/B. However, my breasts aren't that important to me, so I wouldn't ever get an augmentation or lift.

I must just have bad luck. I'm 26 and black. And I flapped my arms up to show my mum that this is what I'll do when I've lost a loads of weight have have floppy wings... Low and behold some lose skins already flapping :( and my tummy's already saggy from a tiny loss of like 30lbs!!!

Introversion, I was actually hoping you'd respond because I remembered you were a slow loser. I didn't realize you were so young though. Ugh, the deck is stacked against me. I'm 53, white, and out of shape. Oh well, as someone on here once said, we should consider loose skin a badge of honor.

@Joann454 ugh I will be in the boat with you...I am even older - 62. I know my skin will be a real mess, I think it's genetics all the way. I had a friend though that said after 4 years it did get somewhat better. But at my age I don't have time to wait lol. I will have to do plastics, there goes a chunk of the 401k...

I'm unsure if I want to do plastics. I guess it depends how I feel and if the skin is bothersome. Way into the future here. I do like the thought of the shifting in time. I've read that a few times. Fingers crossed for us!

I dont think you will know for sure until you start losing more weight. Not sure how much race factors in. Its probably more about how much you lose and how much smaller you get. What is your goal(total # of pounds)?

My highest weight (start of preop diet) was 258. Day of surgery 242. Current 212. I'd like to get to 145. I'm 5'3"
So it'd be 113 lbs. I'm thinking I'll have loose skin.

I think that time will help skin rebound to the extent that genes, age, ethnicity, yo yo dieting history, length of time you were overweight, etc allow.

If you lose slowly the skin will keep pace, if you lose more quickly it will catch up down the road. I lost 135lbs in a year and for another six months it caught up somewhat... but then that was it. So my experience fits what I've read on the subject.

I'm 10 months out and 15 pounds from my goal. I'm currently 110 pounds down (80 from surgery). I'm a slower loser, I will lose for a couple weeks, then stall, then lose and this pattern has been going on for about 6 months now. My skin is okay, my arms are awful and my upper belly (muffin top) is really saggy but my legs have bounced back beautifully so I think it is many factors. I've noticed that my arms are starting to rebound more now that I pretty much have been stalled for a month.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
