did anyone HAVE to get sleep apnea screening before their surgery?

Weird how some hospitals let you bring your machine. Where I work they don't let you even bring in your own mask, since the hospital would need to liable for any of your equipment and anything that happens from you using it. Not to mention the staff would need to be trained on it as well

It can be a cost measure, and RT and my facility comes and checks them out on the first night only. Also patients are more compliant with their own equipment. I know I would be.

Understandably, but I would think it's a legal thing too. And wouldn't they need to have biomedical (or whatever the hospital calls them) check out the equipment to ensure they it's safe and properly functioning? I mean RT could make sure that the therapy is working but they're surely not qualified to make sure the machine itself is safe and properly functioning

Definitely valid points. I'm not sure why my facility isn't concerned about any of that.

The R Ts don't need special training to run them because most function the same way. They did stress the cpap must be clean and in good working order. I bet they send it home if not.

I don't get the mask thing, unless they provide a similar mask. I would hate to wear a full face mask especially after surgery with increased risk of air in the gut. Anyway, I would just follow the hospital policy. At least it's one less thing to haul in at your facility.
