Taste buds have changed

I am 6 weeks post-op and have noticed that meat doesn't taste good anymore. I have tried chicken several ways (kung pao, teriyaki, grilled) and fish (even with lemon and tartar sauce) and they don't taste right. I don't even want to eat them but feel I need to in order to get enough Protein in for the day. I know there are other sources of protein. Other things still taste the same to me (yogurt, eggs, cheese, iced tea).

What the heck is going on?

For me pork tastes disgusting. But, my surgeon did prewarn me that the tastebuds change after surgery.

I hope I hate chocolate after surgery. Lol

I have had a couple of my hubby's french fries and they still taste delicious. Of course. <_<

I had one of the P3 packs with cubed lunch meat, cheese and nuts. I could eat the meat with the cheese and it was good. I will probably make my own from now on because I prefer oven baked turkey vs. smoked turkey.

On a side note, do any of you feel sick when you think about certain foods? Just thinking about meat makes me queasy. I had to really psych myself up before eating the P3 pack. We are going to a party tomorrow night with a nacho bar. I'm dreading it. :65_mask:

I will need my taste buds to change for all things nachos.

Just found my taste for tuna fish has changed :( and I use to love tuna fish.

I needed it too but the queasiness I have just thinking about it is a head trip.

Isn't it horrible?! I loved halibut with lemon and tartar sauce and can't stomach it.

Yes!!! My nut told me not to give it. It can take a few times to like it again, but it was gagging I don't want to try anytime soon. I'm hoping some seafood still tastes good!!!

It is always crazy to me when I read that taste buds have changed, mine are the same. Only more extremely, things I didn't like I hate. Things I like, I love, things I loved, I really really love. I taste food a lot more now and it is delicious.

Everything was delicious early on after weeks of liquids.

I asked my doctor he said it may take six to eight months for them to come back to normal due to the surgery. Before i could not tolerate any type of meat now it slowly tastes similar to what i remember still cant eat chicken though. My nut says keep trying lol protein first.

It is strange how we are all so different. We are going to use our smoker this weekend and I hope that some of it will taste good.
