Coffee post op

Hello everyone this is my first time writing anything on this form so here is a quick summary of my story. I had a RNY Bypass December 12th and then had to go back in January 12th to fix a small bowel obstruction (ouch) I've lost just over 40lbs so far. Feel pretty good now though. Eating and drinking just fine. However I miss my morning coffee what has been everyone's experience with starting to drink coffee again and how long did you wait!?

Thanks in advanced

Hello After my surgery, I started drinking decaf coffee around week 2. I would usually have one cup a morning. Then I switched over to my regular caffeinated coffee at around 8 weeks post op.

  • I believe it was at about week 2 that I had to drink a cup of coffee just to be able to make it through the work day. I'm a coffee addict so I didn't experience any problems [emoji6]

Hello :)

After my surgery, I started drinking decaf coffee around week 2. I would usually have one cup a morning. Then I switched over to my regular caffeinated coffee at around 8 weeks post op. I pretty much have a cup or two (at the most) of hot or iced coffee a day now. I used to be a huge caffeine drinker, so I have really cut way back, which is a good thing.

My stomach has tolerated coffee well... no problems.

I still drink decaff now. I have just got used to it so didnt switch back to regular. I think my first one was around the 6th month mark.

I did't start drinking coffee again until about 4 months out...but it was only because it just didn't smell or sound good at the time. I am almost 6 months out now, and I drink about 1-2 cups a day. It doesn't bother my tummy at all.

I soooo miss my coffee. Can't wait to have some. I usually drink with half and half. Will I be able to? I'm only 4 days out -- had sleeve surgery on 2/15.
