Request from employer

So! Yesterday I submitted a formal request to HR asking them to either cover my procedure or at least allow me to purchase a rider to our insurance policy so I can get it done. We have BCBS of FL (we live/work in NC) and BCBS covers it but there's an exclusion in our policy.

Funny (not really) thing, we are in the clinical trials industry which means, we're working to make people healthier.

I'm praying for a miracle in that they'll cover it, otherwise I will get a loan and pay for it. I'm tired of not living the life I was meant to live. Additional prayers are also welcome and appreciated.

By the time most people pay all the copays for surgery, it is just cheaper to pay out of pocket.

I would just pay instead of stressing myself out with my employer. They picked BCBS of Florida for a reason.

My insurance wouldn't cover the gastric sleeve, I heard about A Lighter Me and looked them up. Dr. Ortiz is a leading bariatric surgeon in Mexico. The cost was a total of $5400. A fraction of the cost in the US. It was a great experience. Husband and I flew into San Diego; was picked up and driven to Tijuana Mexico. Two days in hospital, 3 days in 4 star hotel with a 24 hour nurse, then flew home. Surgery was 7/19/2016. I've lost 27 pounds so far. No regrets, but certainly not the easy e's to lose weight!

I have blue cross of Florida as well. By the time that I jumped through the hoops and looked at the lost wages while jumping through those hoops it wasn't worth it. I go to Tijuana on the 29th for less out of pocket costs.
