Hey all. I had my sleeve done on 6/16/16. I also had my gallbladder removed at that time. I am in SO much pain still and my pain meds aren't helping. I tried to go back to work today but that didn't work out very well. Anyhow, I'm having a hard time with getting fluids in much less nutrients. I can stomach Water and sugar free Popsicles and on occasion egg drop Soup. But I'm lacking bad in Proteins and my Fluid definitely isn't at 64-80 oz. Any tips on other options to try drinking or how to regulate my intake?

Unfortunately there really isn't a trick to it......you really just have to force yourself to drink constantly.......focus first on fluids. You can get by for several days without getting enough Protein, but you must get in all your fluids, otherwise you could get really sick..........for me it was much easier when I focused only on liquids and got that up to where it needed to be and then started working on protein...I like using the MIO drops in my Water.

Good luck to you. It gets better!!!

Have you tried Isopure? https://www.luckyvitamin.com/p-232399-nature-s-best-isopure-zero-carb-rtd-alpine-punch-12-bottle-s

Many flavors, but not everyone likes it (well, most hate it, but I really liked the green tea).

What's really helped me are those 2 oz red solo shot cups. Since I've been home, every hour on the hour I get up and walk around and then fill 4 of those with fluids (Water, propel, Isopure, etc.). My goal is to drink those 4 during the hour, and then repeat.

That is an AWESOME idea! Thank you for sharing

Also fill 4 before bed - then when you wake up in the middle of the night, you have some right there to sip on. I spent my first few nights at home waking up multiple times for whatever reason, and each time I'd sip one and walk up and down my hallway a few times before getting back in bed.

I have tried Isopure coconut and it's too sweet for me so I'm doing a lot of Water right now.

EVERYTHING was too sweet for me postop. I diluted all Protein shakes 1/2 and 1/2 with milk or Water. Used twice as much water as called for when mixing Protein powders. Added unflavored Protein powder to every kind of broth or cream Soup I could find for a nice break from the sweet shakes.

I set mini Fluid goals for myself throughout the day....finish 12 oz before leaving for work. 20oz before lunch. Sipped on a 24-32oz Protein shake all afternoon in between appointments, and finished out every day with 12oz of camomile tea before going to bed. Have a bottle with you at all times and take a sip every chance you get. Set a timer if you have to.

I'm almost a week post op. The first couple of days there was no way in hell that I could come close to getting my Fluid intake OR Protein intake in. Thought I was doomed for failure.

What I find works for me is that I fill up a 64oz mug with ice Water first thing in the morning and will sip on that throughout the day. I still can't get the whole thing down, but I will sip on it all day. Then for Breakfast I will have a chocolate Premier Protein shake (30g protein) and I add in a tbsp of PB2 powder (make my Protein Shake taste kind of like a reese cup) that adds another 2g. For lunch I have an Atkins Lift Protein Drink, that is 17oz and has 20g of Protein. And starting yesterday I added a greek yogurt for dinner, that had 12g of protein.

Give it time and it does get easier each day.

You, my friend, are a genius! I went and bought those cups today and I guess where I'm finally hungry/thirsty, I got my first full 8 oz in an hour! I also got the PB2 and premiere Protein someone else recommended. Thanks for the advice everyone.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
