How do you calculate your protein intake?

So I am 3 months into my 6 month program required by my insurance and I'll admit that for the last month I have slacked off and even gained 2 pounds :( I haven't had my meeting with my NUT yet, but it is scheduled for 2 weeks from now. I know I'm probably not getting nearly enough Protein in as I should, carbs are my bbf and I'm having a hard time letting go. What methods/apps are people using to figure out how much protein they're taking in? Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

You know, it's a shame, I have a food scale hiding in my spice drawer and I haven't utilized in FOREVER! I think its time to break that bad boy out and download some apps on my phone, thanks everyone!

I love my fitness pal. You can track everything there, all nutrition, water, weight, etc. and it's not only an app but you can access through the web as well.

  • Digital food scale for weighing my food, and then tracking all my food intake in my FatSecret app.

I weigh all my food -- except the stuff that comes in single servings like yogurt cups -- on a digital scale, and track everything on myfitnesspal. I know kicking carbs is hard, I struggle with it too! I have found it very useful to go extremely low carb -- under 30 grams of carbs -- for three days to kick the cravings. Those first two days especially are awful but after that it gets easier and the cravings go away. Good luck to you!

Read labels, weigh, measure, and track in MyFitnessPal.

If I am out at a restaurant, I can usually find the item, or an approximation, already in MyFitnessPal. If not, then I estimate based on individual ingredients.
