  1. So, I've been on the liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to my vsg, and am now 11 days into a 3 week post op liquid diet (5 weeks total-ughhh). I'm super bored of the broths and Soups, so I asked my surgeon if I could add lime to some of my soups and they said sure, but I forgot to ask about eating a spicy Soup. I got this Mexican tortilla soup (i strain all the bits out) that has a nice spicy kick, but am wondering if it's too soon for my stevie the sleevie to handle the spice? Has anyone this far into their vsg had success eating (or drinking) different flavored soups? I'm so tired of chicken, beef, and vegetable soup. Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App

  3. I had my vsg and gallbladder removal done Wednesday September 7th. And aside from esophageal spasms, incision pain and fatigue I feel ok. I'm not physically hungry, but am fighting the demon known as "the head hungries" but despite all that I haven't given in to temptations. I am, however, not meeting my Protein goals, like not even close. I'm lucky if I get maybe 30 grams in a day. And my total liquid intake has also been lacking. I just don't like the taste of Protein powder. I enjoy the rtd Protein drinks, but at a cost of $9 for 4 11oz drinks, i simply cannot afford to have 2-3 a day (and I don't have a costco membership).. hence the reason for my buying the protein powder. I completely forgot to mention this at my follow up appt today (and I'm kicking myself in the ass for it) but thought I could instead inquire to this awesome community for help/advice. Now, I know I'm not to have anything but Clear liquids and protein drinks for the next 2 weeks, but could I possibly add 1/4 banana or something to my protein powder just to make it easier for me to drink? I've tried several protein powders, but currently have the EAS 100%whey vanilla flavored protein powder. I can't return or exchange it as its already been opened and would hate to have to toss out an almost $30 product, so anyway advice on how to spruce up the flavor (without doing harm to my stevie the sleeve of course) would be most welcomed! 5. Thanks for the advice guys! I've been mixing my Protein with low fat milk. But being that I looove cashews, maybe I'll try mixing it with cashew milk, or almond milk. The creamsicle idea sounds great also! I'd also like to point out that I'm really not penny or money pinching, i just literally have no money $ left over after daycare, bills, student loans and rent and transportation. Trust me if I could drop the $80- $100 on rtd shakes that i thoroughly enjoy, enough to last through this liquid stage, I'd do it in a heart beat! Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App
  6. As I'm barely writing this, it's now been exactly 24 hrs since my sleeve and gallbladder removal andI'm still in the hospital. I don't feel too much pain, but when I swallow my sips of liquids, almost immediately after, I feel sharp pain in my chest and even sometimes hiccups. I also get mock bubble guts (like when you really need to poop), i know everyone on staff here at my hospital says it's normal, but i want to know if anyone has experienced this? How did you cope and how long did these feelings last? Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App

    Gallbladder

I'm 2 days post op sleeve and about a month ago I had a pretty bad gallbladder attack. It was decided by my surgeon that i was "healthy enough" to have both the sleeve and my gallbladder removed at the same time. As of right now, the pain/discomfort I'm having is associated with my sleeve and incisions, not my gallbladder. But everyone is different. I'd talk to your surgeon to see if he can do both at the same time, to avoid having to go under twice. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App
  8. Hello all! After 6 months dr's visit and fulfilling all additional insurance requirements I'm happy to say that my insurance has approved my surgery (vsg & gallbladder removal)...but, I'm seriously concerned about the preop diet and here's why: (bare with me, many details to come lol) Okay, sooo, my last appt for my insurance (conifer) required 6 month dr visit was just this past Monday (aug 22) and I was told on that appt that they will be turning in my entire chart to my case manager from conifer (my ins) that very same day. Now i had been in contact with my case manager for the past 2 months so she was aware of everything from my appts to results and so on. To my surprise, i got a call from her the very next day (aug 23) to tell me that I was approved for surgery and that my surgeon's office would be calling me to schedule my surgery. Sure enough, i get a call to schedule my surgery date for Sept 7th, and I'm informed that I'm to start my all liquid diet the very next day(wed aug 24)...herein lies the problem... I was not at all prepared to start my liquid diet. Sure I didn't have my "food funeral" but i literally was not prepared. I had no liquids at home to consume (no broths, no Protein shakes/powders, etc) and financially i did not have the means to go out and buy anything for my liquid diet until I got paid (Friday, aug 26). This means that i will not be able to start my liquid diet until Saturday (aug 27)... I'm terrified that my surgery will be cancelled because I didn't/couldn't start the liquid diet when I was told to...does anyone have any input on a situation like this? If it was one day, i probably wouldn't worry as much, but it was 3 days. Will 12 days liquid diet be enough? I do want to add that i would not eat anything all day for the 3 days, with the exception of a high protein/low carb dinner. I'd hate for my surgery to be cancelled because of my financial difficulties and inability to buy the necessary items for my diet, especially after having to wait 6 months. If you're still reading this thanks for sticking around any input/advice is welcomed! Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App
  9. Thanks everyone for the reassurance! It all happened soo fast! Last appt one day, approval the next and 2 week liquid diet right after that. I'm happy to say that i am now well prepared for the weekend (took a trip to pick up some stuff right after work) and will be buying more this weekend to hold me down for pre/post op I think i can let the excitement and nervous butterflies commence lol Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App
  10. Right after work, i picked up enough premier Protein Shakes, Jello, and broth to hold me down for weekend. I have a trip to Walmart planned to pick up more to last through the liquid stage for preop and post op so I shouldn't have any problems moving forward, thanks for the advice and reassurance! 11. So, I tentatively have my surgery date of September 7th (pending insurance approval of course- I still have one more weigh in to go, fingers crossed!]... This got me thinking of what to pack in my hospital bag. To those of you who have already been sleeved, what was in your hospital bag? Were there things you took you didn't necessarily need? Did you wish you had brought a particular item with you? I haven't submitted my paperwork to my insurance but I'm already so excited and trying to plan ahead

    Any August sleevers out there?

Lucky you!! Congrats! I haven't gotten a surgery date as of yet, but I'm hoping for the end of August/beginning of September. I still have like 3 more visits with my doctors office. I am hoping that I can get a date by the end of this month or sometime in July as I have completed all the requirements for surgery except the 6 months of visits and a chest xray and ekg ( I'd have to wait until close to surgery to get those last two).

Band or Sleeve? So confused :(

When I made my consultation with my surgeon, I was convinced that I wanted the band. However, after doing some research and really thinking about it, I decided against the band and went for the sleeve instead. Here's why: I don't feel comfortable having a foreign object in my body, it kind of freaks me out. I also don't want to have to get a saline injection through a port every time I need an adjustment, that means extra doctor's visits, more commuting to his office (which isn't terribly close to me to begin with, plus I don't drive). I'm also not a fan of the complications of the band (slipping, erosion, etc). Like you, I've also seen the revision from band to sleeve stories too, and that also played a factor in my decision process. The sleeve has it's complications too, but given my personal weight loss story and overall journey, I feel I would personally benefit more from the sleeve, you see, I'm always hungry lol. And with the part of the stomach that is being removed (where the hunger hormone is), my constant hunger (physical hunger, not the retched head hunger) shouldn't be a problem. Also, given my history with what I eat, my doctors office recommended the sleeve. Although they would of done the band had I chosen too. I've never had surgery and never been put to sleep for any procedure, and I am a bit scared but I feel good about my decision to sleeve and not band. I've thought about it for months and have done my research and feel like I understand the pro's and con's of both procedures. The sleeve just seemed like a better choice for ME. This is not to say that there's anything wrong with the band though! I think that you just really need to read up on both procedures some more, read success stories and some not so successful ones, read about the pro's and con's to both, and be realistic about how each one can personally benefit you and what you are comfortable with. At the end of the day, it'll be your choice, and I'm sure you'll make the best choice for YOU! Hope this helped
  17. I'm so sorry that your having an unnecessarily difficult time getting a straight answer. I was fortunate that the answers i got from mu surgeons office, correlated with what my insurance was verbally telling me. Still i took no chances, since my policy info is not available anywhere online, an insurance rep was kind enough to email me the portion of my policy as it pertains to bariatric surgery. That way I am as sure as I can possibly be. The best suggestion i can give you is the same as most everyone, get your policy specifics in writing. And if you have to, call your insurance company while you're in the surgeon's office and have their coordinator speak to someone. Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App

    Any Newbies in Maryland ?

Hey! I'm in Hyattsville, I'm getting sleeved (fingers crossed) at Shady Grove Medical Center with Dr.Greene, the director of bariatric surgery. How far along are you in your journey? dr Greene is the best he is sleeving me on WednesdayOmg so that means that you are 24 hrs away from being sleeved! Good luck to you! Please let me know how it goes! :] Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App
  20. Hello my fellow bariatric buddies! TGIF! I just had my 1st appointment with my NUT yesterday and we touched on a subject that hasn't really been discussed at my monthly weight ins, and that's the anesthesia consult. For those of you who have gone through this process, what was it like? I know its a necessary process but I'm curious what goes down in this consult. If anyone can shed a little light on this, that'd be great thanks! Also, shouts out to me for loosing 5 pounds since my May 23rd weigh in, real happy about that :]

  22. I'm curious, how many days off from work did your doctor recommend you take off for recovery? When did you feel ready to return to work? I know that it'll be different for different people and for different jobs, and it also depends on what the doc says. Mine is kind of vague as of now, only saying I could be off anywhere between 2-8 weeks.

    Is it just me.....?

I have yet had someone tell me horror stories, but I've had plenty of those "you're not fat/big enough"... or the whole "i know someone who did it and gained all the weight and more" comments...thank you! That's what i want to hear, smh. As cindy mentioned, some people have no filter and don't think before they speak Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App
  24. My eval was pretty chill. My doctor gave me a letter to say what it is they might touch on but it felt really casual. She asked me about my weight loss attempts and my relationship with food, and my personal relationships (support system). She also wanted to make sure that I was aware that this was a tool and not a quick fix and that I wasnt abusing any substances. Maybe it was just the lady I saw, but like I said she was pretty chill.
  25. So I am 3 months into my 6 month program required by my insurance and I'll admit that for the last month I have slacked off and even gained 2 pounds I haven't had my meeting with my NUT yet, but it is scheduled for 2 weeks from now. I know I'm probably not getting nearly enough Protein in as I should, carbs are my bbf and I'm having a hard time letting go. What methods/apps are people using to figure out how much protein they're taking in? Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated!
