Pre-op diet

I have an appointment but haven't had my first consultation yet. I'd like to know if anyone was required to lose a certain amount of weight prior to surgery and if so how much. I still have to do a medically supervised diet and I'd like to know if there is a weight loss requirement prior to surgery. Thank you.

My insurance did not require a diet but my surgeon required a 5% loss before she would schedule surgery and submit to insurance. Sent from my iPhone

It depends on your insurance, surgeon and your particular situation.

My surgeon did not require any weight loss based on my history. My insurance didn't either. I still lost 15 pounds and I get warnings at every visit not to gain, even though it wasn't a requirement. Go figure.
