4 days post-op questions

Hey everyone! I had surgery on April 5th. That first day and night while in the hospital was miserable and I was so nauseous. My pain and nausea are now under control, and my surgeon and the nurses at the hospital were impressed at how I handled the surgery and how good I was doing. I don't see my surgeon until 2 weeks post-op but right now I seem to be having a hard time getting all my liquids in! I sip the 2 Oz of shakes every hour until I get the recommended daily amount, and I sip liquids every 15 mins, but I don't know how I am supposed to get half my body weight in ounces! I can't gulp or drink cold liquids right now and I need any suggestions I can get! Thank you in advance!

Yes try to sip closer together than 15 if you can tolerate it also it may help to get a bottles labeled with time to need to drink by I bought this bottle from a boutique near me and it really helps m

  • Just focus on things one hour at a time. Don't think about what if this or what if that. Just one hour at a time. Do what you can. Worrying yourself will cause unnecessary stress on your healing body.

  • Thanks! I will stop worrying and focus on all that! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App I haven't tried warm milk, I will try that! Thank you so much! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G9

I was told not to take in any Protein /protein shakes for 10 days I noticed several of you started after just a couple days....was this approved by your doctor I'm kind of freaked out about not eating protein for a few more days and want to start today .

I'm close to 6 weeks out and my plan didn't call for any protein on my 1st week of clear diet either... I started drinking protein drinks during my 2nd week in full liquids, I don't think it's the norm however.... My energy has been fine, I do wonder about the whole hair loss thing though! Praying for the best!!

I was given protein supplements (ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates) in the hospital. My surgeon expected me to meet my protein target of 100 grams a day right away. Starting two days after surgery I was able to do so. I was allowed a couple of exceptions during the clear phase (namely Premier Protein and a couple of ProtiDiet Soups by my surgeon). According to my surgeon, getting enough protein is critical for healing in addition to the weight loss.

Sipping protein and fluids, and walking were my primary focus in the first 10 days after surgery. Getting it all in is a full time job but worth it. I had a great recovery and am very happy with my progress so far.

I wasn't told to take any Protein Shakes at all, especially not in the beginning, and I haven't been experiencing any hair loss. I just took what I could keep down, mainly milk at the time, and then eventually I moved onto protein milkshakes and other things. I don't honestly think there's a hard and fast rule about any of this - every surgeon and Nut is going to say something different, and everyone's journey will be different. Don't freak out - you're gonna be fine! just do what feels right to you, trust your instincts.
