    I haven't gotten my surgery date yet but I'm a nurse and usually they give you IV antibiotics right before you go to the operation room to prevent infection.

i was only on abtibiotics because i had h pylori in my stomach, otherwise i would not have been given them.

Nope, didn't have any antibiotics pre-op that I recall.

But I did have to shower twice before surgery with some special yucky surgical soap.

None pre-op

I was told I would only have them if they found h. pylori during my EGD.

I think he might have meant preop

As in right as they are rolling you into the operating room they will infuse antibiotics.

It's done right before surgery because it helps reduce the risk of infection from the procedure.
