Clear or puree after surgery

Hi all,

Tomorrow marks a week since by bypass. My team advised a puree diet after the barium x-ray (the following day) to make sure nothing leaked.

I feel like everywhere I read, people started on clear fluids for up to 2 weeks. I understand each surgeon & nutritionist is different, but it makes me worry I'm going too fast! I keep reading the information to make sure I'm doing the right thing, and I'm pretty sure I am.

Why does it differ so much??

I don't know why it differs so much, but I was sent home on full liquids. You'll be great!

Every doc is different. I was on clear liquids only for the first 7 days, then full liquids for another 7 days and then puréed for 2 weeks. Then I was released to soft foods until I was 8 weeks post op. At 8 weeks I was fully released to a high protein, low carb well balanced diet.

they had me on puree even before I left the hospital. Was on it for four weeks, I think - then I went on soft foods until month 3.

I was on clear liquids for less than 24 hours after surgery. They gave me a shake before I left the hospital to make sure I felt okay while drinking it. I started on puree a week after surgery, after my first check-up with them. :)
