Mini gastric bypass VS gastric bypass...Insights?

Hello All,

Any insights on Mini gastric bypass VS gastric bypass?

I am scheduled for mini gastric bypass in Mexico via Mexico Bariatric Centre on March 12 2016.

  • This article does a pretty good job of comparing both surgeries. http://sassesurgical.com/bariatric-surgery/laparoscopic-procedures/mini-gastric-bypass/

I've never heard of a mini bypass so can't comment on it. WHat would they do that is considered "mini"?

After reading about it, it's not a good choice if you already have reflux problems, as digestive juices and bile can go into the pouch, as well as the esophagus or/and higher. That could not be a choice for me.

I agree, why not get the full bypass? You may regret it if you don't. The full bypass is only 1.5 hours. Don't worry about time spent in surgery, once you are under you are well taken care of.

From what I have read the results are the same as the traditional bypass. Seems like not many people have done this version.

My doc told me that the mini is relatively new and there no long term studies on it and how successful it is far out.

I had bad acid reflux so I went with the full GB and it was cured right away.

Hope you are happy with whatever decision you make :)

Good luck!
