Weigh food

How long should I continue to weigh my food? I'm three and a half months out and still weigh everything. I just feel like this keeps me in check with not over eating. At this time can only eat three oz of food per meal.

@@BLERDgirl and @@VSGAnn2014 are giving you the best advice. You may think that, after a short period of weighing out food, you'll recognize it when you see it. It doesn't work that way. Just for

  • You can weigh your food forever, as far as I'm concerned. At 14.5 months post-op I still weigh some of my foods -- especially those foods I am prone to under-estimate, like cheese, and to under-es

  • I'd also add keeping a food log to that. I was using one long before WLS and still do. I suspect I will always use one. It's a nice tool to help stay in check.

@@jhclikesshopping@gmail.com Thanks so much! To clarify you have that per meal so say 2 oz Protein and 1 oz veggie for lunch then again for dinner? I am 5 and a half weeks out and don't really know if I am eating too much. Thanks for sharing.

@@VDLT - yes. Each meal I have 2 oz Protein, 1 oz veggie and 1 oz fruit. This still fills be up (after 8 months). I usually eat 3 meals and 1 snack. I also still have one Protein shake per day. Good luck and let me know if you have more questions.

Three years out, and I still measure and weigh food. It's more the volume than weight, though. I weigh things that don't fit well into measuring cups. I was on 1/4 cup or less per meal to start, then that increased to 1/2 cup. Now, I'm not supposed to eat more than one cup at a time. I don't measure everything, but I still routinely measure a lot. I also track all those calories, because you can pack a lot of calories into a cup, depending on what it is.

Thanks everyone, this is very helpful!

My two years are coming up on December 23rd. I still weigh, measure, and log my food, and step on the scale every day. I am not good at estimating portions, so this all keeps me in check. It is so much easier to deal with a small variance that something gone out of control.

I started out post op with my regular foods measuring at 1/4 cup plus one tablespoon, and could only drink my Water an ounce at a time. I just barely got in my 64 ounces of water.

Now I can eat 1 cup of something dense, like beef stew, or 2 ounces of meat plus 1/2 cup of veggies. I keep fruit for a morning snack. I can drink a cup of water (or tea, Soup, etc.) at the rate of two ounces every few minutes. Most days I can meet or surpass 100 ounces of water in a 24 hour period.

I'm over a year out and still weigh my food daily.
