Suture pain suggestions?

Hey guys,

I'm 9 days post op and doing much better than I expected. Getting my Protein in and Water and moving pretty good.

My biggest issue? Suture pain! I'm on liquid Tylenol but it's just not cutting it. I'd hate to go back to my hydracodone to help with the pain, but I'm running out of options. Yesterday was pretty unbearable and it makes me not want to go walking because of this pain.

Any suggestions on how you coped with these pesky suture pains?

Thanks!

I took my narcotic pain meds. I don't like them either, but there isn't any heroic valor in suffering and the stress on your body from pain can slow your healing and recovery.

Agree with @@Bufflehead - take your pain med. Try only half of a dose. They should help make you feel not as loopy but allow you to get past the discomfort.

How are your suture pains doing?

Thanks for your suggestions everyone!

I did end up taking the narcotic at night over the weekend. Then on Monday the pains have lessened so I've been able to just use tylenol as needed.

Your suggestions mirrored what my BFF who's gone through laproscpoic surgery also said, no need to be a hero!

Are you talking about internal or external sutures? If external, have your surgeon remove them and seal you up with surgical glue.

I should have more specific, it was more the insisional pain than the actual sutures. My doctor did my stitches under the skin, and glued the outside.

But it's getting better everyday and I haven't had to take the narcotic for a week now.

Thanks for all your suggestions!
