Pre op diet...

Why is it that some ppl don't have to do clear liquid for 2 weeks? Some ppl diet 2 days before surgery? This pre op diet will be the death of me! I can't stick to it.

I didn't get this big with health issues eating/drinking Clear liquids. I'm starving.

Just as some ppl do drugs... food is my drug... It's a habit that a can't kick. I wish I could just diet 2 days before.

I don't see how your liver will shrink in 2 weeks when it took 28 years to get where it's at now??

The pre op diet is very hard. I had to do two weeks of liquids only so I know what you are going through. I tried to stay really busy during my two weeks. I focused on getting my house in order, stoc

I didn't have to do liquids for two weeks, just 1000 calories or fewer. Now I wish I had been put on liquids, and went there voluntarily two days before to have a soft landing into clear liquid phase

  • I feel you. I'm starving too and 1000 calories a day. I Don't lose weight. Your liver has to shrink for them to operate so they don't damage your liver. Basically the last 28 years of your life you ha

@ brittd, Hi, I'm assuming you never went to a nutritionist. Usually Insurance Companies require that you visit a nutritionist. Some do , some don't but someone must of said to you about a pre-op diet before surgery. The purpose for the diet is to shrink liver,

Hmmm I'm starting to get a little worried. My surgery is November 23rd and the next time I see my doctor is November 19th and I was never told anything about a pre-op diet!!

My coworker was sleeved in May and never had a preop diet and everything went just fine. Depends on the Doctor I guess!

I did see a Dietitian but she never said anything about a pre-op diet. . . I have a bunch of paperwork on nutrition care following surgery, just nothing about beforehand.

@@brittd, I guess it wouldn't hurt if you did go on a liquid diet. Broths, Protein Shakes, High Protein No Sugar Jello-0 or Pudding. A meal, chicken or fish, the size of a pack of deck cards, cooked veggies such as broccoli, carrots. Try doing it for a week. Or, call your doctors office and say that there was no mention of a pre-op diet but that you hear many do. For me I only have to do one week pre-op diet because my BMI is under 40. For patients over 45 BMI, they have to go for 2 weeks.
