3 Days Post-op Weight Gain?

It is my third day and everything went according to plan. Just got home from the hospital and weighed myself for the first time. I was shocked to see that i actually have gained 8 pounds since the day of surgery. How is that possible? Is it the gas, is it the fluids, or is there something else?

  • Probably gas and all of the fluids you were given. I had surgery Monday and going home today.. I Wana try to avoid the scale but I know that's a lie.

  • It's the fluids. I am having surgery next week but when I had my kids each time I went home weighing more than when I got there....and that's even having an 8lb 10oz'er lol. It will come off quickly

  • Fluids from the IVs and Water retention from the swelling. I came home 6 lbs heavier... but it came off the first week.

I came back heavier, too. Gas, fluids,-what everyone else is saying. Nothing to worry about. Momentary setback, if you can even call it that because those pounds will start flying off. Congratulations and good luck with your recovery.

I had gained 10 pounds after surgery. The hospital pumps IV fluids while you are there. I am now one week post op and I have lost 15. Be patient.

Thank you everyone! I'm three days into my new life and this is going to be an amazing ride. Thank you all for all of your support and sharing all of your experience. This is help me so much.

Surgery Monday 13th Apr. discharged We'd 15 Apr. gained 8 lbs in hospital. Thursday 16th Apr had lost 6 of those pounds. Last day of clear liquids. Start puréed food tomorrow.

I'm 10 days post op, I came home 5 lbs heavier too. It's no big deal the fluid weight came off in e few days. Saw my suergeon today and I get to start " very soft foods" on Monday. The first think I'm going to have is a small amount of homemade mashed potatoes. Beyond excited for something delicious!
