Migraines/Allergies/Sore throats how do you handle it?

Recommended Posts

For those of you who have been sleeved I am curious how you guys and gals handle getting sick?

This year I got a horrible cold and have had a lot of bad allergies and Migraines which were probably related. So often I know I take NSAIDS to help get through and that's going to have to change in the near future once I'm scheduled for surgery.

I would love to know some tips and tricks y'all probably have related to being sick post-op. Is it harder? Easier? Or all the same?

(I remember being pregnant with my twins and not able to take anything and I was fairly miserable for all 9 months)

If you are like me, you've been told no aspirin or Ibuprofin, just Tylenol-type pain killers. No capsules or pills, just liquid form. So I found liquid Tylenol in the plain form, and cold formulas. Today I discovered Mucinex has a liquid cold formula, as well. There may be others, but I don't know about them. I hope this helps. I will be allowed the other types of meds later down the road, when I am more fully healed. I find the liquids don't seem to last as long as the pill/capsule forms, but it seems the time frame between dosages are the same, I think, which for me is frustrating as it seems to wear off faster (for me, anyway). Good luck and I hope you feel better.

I get really severe Migraines. As a result my dr prescribed me Carafate. You take it before an NSAID and it supposedly coats your stomach therefore making you less vulnerable to ulcers and what not. I always try Tylenol first and even when the Tylenol hasn't worked, I have only resorted to an nsaid a few times because of my own fear of complications. It might be a good idea to ask your dr his opinion on the Carafate and see if he would prescribe it to you for an "emergency" Migraine situation. Sometimes it's nice knowing you have a plan b just in case it becomes too much to handle without an nsaid.

I had really horrible allergies (literally allergic to dust and most animals and trees) before surgery. About a month before surgery I decided I'd had enough and was worried about not being able to take medicine post op for it. There are a lot of options. I was given a nasal inhaler and put on children's Allegra and given a sinus wash and I've not had a problem since. No runny nose, no sinus headaches, no sneezing, nothing.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
