Bowl Movement

I'm 2 weeks post-op and have been eating soft foods for about a week. Mainly soups; Cream of blah and Chowders. I haven't been getting in all my protein. I'm lucky to get 30g. Also I'm not getting enough water, likely around 30-40oz. My main concern is the lack of a bowel movement. I haven't had one since the laxative I took 2 days before my surgery. Anyone else have B.M. issues? Should I take a laxative? How soon after your surgery did you have a B.M.?

I would focus on getting in my water and protein. The bowel movement will come. It sounds like you are not putting enough in your body to promote a bowel movement. I'm almost 3 weeks post op, but last week I didn't get my water in for a couple of days, and I ended up constipated. Believe me you don't want constipation. My constipation led to hemmorhoids. So get your water and protein in, and you'll get that bowel movement.

You need to poop!!!. I hadn't gone at all when I was to the doc for my 1 week visit, and he made me stop at the drug store on the way home to get Miralax and told me to take a large dose when I got home and to take another if I didn't have results within a day.

Drinking more water will help for sure. Good luck.

@NewJeffery thanks for the advise. I'm seriously considering those Fluid Protein Shots. It's around 10oz. And contains 40g of Protein Isolate. Until I start eating solid foods, that's the only way I see to get a full 60g of protein in.

@Dabliss that's exactly what I was thinking. The last thing I want is constipation. I plan to pick up a bottle tomorrow. However I thought about the magnesium stuff that tastes like a sprite...but it seems like it has carbonation which is a no no.

My dtr said to take Colace stool softener up to 2 per day & you can use benefiber that disolves clear. Said not to use miralax since it draws water out of the bowel. Hope this helps.
