Problem after meals
Hello all! I am almost a year post op & have reached my weight goal having lost over 70 lbs. After meals, I get extremely sleepy & lethargic, sometimes to the point of needing to lie down for a while. Anyone else have this & if so, what's causing it & what to do about it. Thanks for your replies!

I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
I was 66 when I had surgery 3 months ago. I am 67 now. I have done great & feel great! Reduced/eliminated 5 meds & hope to be off more! I've lost 37 of the 60 # I need to lose. I am walking between 3 -4 miles per day. I am a very bad diabetic & have improved tremendously!!! Don't let age keep you from this if you need it!!!

Victoza, weight loss, diabetes, surgery
I am a type 2 insulin dependent diabetic & have been taking Victoza for several years. It helped me reduce the amount of insulin I needed by about half & helped me lose a little weight. I am 1 week post op for RNY surgery & have stopped Victoza completely. Victoza effects the speed of food moving thru the digestive system, actually slows it down. My dtr recommended that I stop it post surgery. Hope I don't have to take it again since I am gradually reducing insulin I am taking.

Bowl Movement
My dtr said to take Colace stool softener up to 2 per day & you can use benefiber that disolves clear. Said not to use miralax since it draws water out of the bowel. Hope this helps.

Elode it was in my diet instructions & hasn't bothered me. I really blended it well with soup & milk so it was a soup consistency.

4 days in,,,, Liquid diet,,, So boring,,,
I am also 4 days post op. & have tried a few things that have helped. Baked & lightly seasoned a chicken breast, put in blender with cream of chicken soup & a little milk. Pretty good! Also made sf cheesecake pudding adding 2 scoops of vanilla protein powder & milk. Really good! Hope this helps you some. Good luck! Let's do this!!'

Surgery while on blood thinners?
The filter was put in the day before surgery. It was done at the hospital but I went home after it was done. Only takes about 1/2 hour. They make a small incision in the groin area & insert the filter in a vien that runs near your heart. The filter is small & looks like an umbrella. Mine will stay in for a month then will be removed with a small incision in my neck. It is done with just a local anesthia & some sedation for relaxation. Very easy procedure that likely saves many lives. Talk to your dtr about it.

Surgery while on blood thinners?
I had surgery on Tues. 11/18 & was given heparin in the hospital & a prescription for Lovenox injections to be taken twice a day for 14 days. I had a blood clot from a previous surgery so I am higher risk. Also, I had an IVC filter put in the day before surgery. This is a small filter that will catch any blood clots coming from your legs that could travel to your lungs or heart. This filter will stay in for a month. Hope this helps
