Advice needed

Hi I went to schedule lap band surgery. At 5'6" and 194 lbs my BmI just did qualify my for surgery. I am unable to work out due to 4 previous back surgerys with two rods in my back. I also have high BP. I want the surgery, but my kids are against it. I still have the phscologist in Dec. What words of wisdom do you have for me.

How old are your kids? Adult aged, I assume?

When I first started thinking about gastric bypass, it seemed too extreme and scary for me. Then I thought "is it any more scary than losing my feet to diabetes, or dying of a heart attack, or having to take high BP and high cholesterol meds forever?" Eventually you will get to the point where the bad effects of your weight will seem much worse than the possible bad effects of surgery.

Your kids are probably worried and concerned about you, and rightfully so. If they are adult aged, you might bring them to a surgery orientation or your next surgeon appointment to educate them on why you feel this is necessary for your health. Hope that helps!
