Sleeve or Bypass?

After many problems of getting to St. Vincent in Indianapolis, I finally had a chance to go to a seminar at Community North in Indianapolis, ready for the next step. My sister and I are doing this together so that we can each have support through the process. Now to see the surgeon as soon as we can get in and talk to him. Thought I had my mind made up on the gastric bypass but now thinking the sleeve would be better. What is the major difference in the two ? Was it hard for anyone else to decide? :(

  • For me the sleeve was an easy decision over bypass. But that was based on my medical history of ulcerative colitis. My good friend had a bypass and is very happy with her decision 5 years later. It

omg! Thank you. I am so hopeful. May I ask did you inject insulin?

Nooooo, thank heavens! I took (what I thought was) a lot of pill medication, but that was my worst nightmare- becoming insulin dependent. I was able to take everything in one handful once a day at dinnertime, which was nice in retrospect. I took my last pill "side dish" the night before surgery, and haven't had one since. I'm amazed at how quickly my sugar went down- I'm keeping my fingers crossed that as I start to add real food back to my diet that they'll stay that way.

I am on 2 types of insulin and pills. I am praying for a miracle. My insulin costs my $1100 for just 1 type for 3 months.

I was a type 2 diabetic on insulin, had the sleeve on October 14 been off my insulin since that day my sugars are great. Good luck with whichever you choose
