African American vsgers!

  • Popular Post

Hey guys I saw a thread from 2011 that I wanted to continue. I love all of my vsgers but as we know african american women tend to carry weight differently. I would love to follow you ladies on your journey and for us all to support each other.

I was sleeved on September 5th so I'm a week out. I'm doing good so far and feeling better everyday. I stayed at the hospital 3 days mostly because they discovered my allergy to morphine while I was on the pump with a fever and my entire body on fire. But I'm home now and much better. I was just moved to the full liquids stage so I'm pretty happy considering that the liquids stage made me nauseous. I've lost 24 lbs since my surgery so any pain I have is over shadowed by my joy.

Looking forward to hearing from you ladies and seeing some progress pics!

Just stopping by to wish all my fellow AA sleevers the best of luck wherever you are in your journey!

Thank you. How has the journey been for you? It seems you have done well. Any tips to share?

@@Peekboo It's been quite a journey indeed and I am in a very happy place. I don't regret my decision to undergo this surgery at all. The biggest tip I have is that we have to accept this as a lifestyle change - develop healthy habits that transcend in healthier choices for life. I don't believe in eating foods labeled as low fat so I stuck to natural food items while privileging proteins and veggies and limiting my carb intake. My fitness pal was instrumental in my success. I logged everything so it helped me understand what I was consuming. The other important tip is exercise. No matter what you do, you have to perform some level of exercise. In my case I do Zumba and did a lot of aquafit classes in the summer. I also did some light weights which helped a lot with my skin. I am blessed to not have any sagging skin despite the 100+ loss. By adopting a lifestyle change, I've been able to automatically condition my body to healthier living. I just recently went on a month long vacation where I was not able to log daily however came back 10lbs lighter. That was a huge accomplishment and testament to the months of educating myself on healthier living.

The other thing I would like to mention is to not worry about the stalls. I have had countless during this journey and kept my eyes focused on the prize!

I hope this helps! I can see that you are doing great! Feel free to contact me for any other questions :-)

I really appreciate the information. I am glad you mentioned the stalls. Although its only been 14 weeks for me, I had had at least 3 stalls. They are discouraging but I hang in there. The hardest part for me is watching others lose so much faster than me :(. I will keep trucking along and look to to finish. Did you ever experience any hair loss in your journey?

@@Peekboo I have not experienced any hair loss fortunately. Indeed those stalls are pretty horrible but the good news is always how much you drop right after ;-) I am excited for your journey!

Just wanted to pop in and say hi. I'm just starting this process, so I'm not far along in the journey. I have my meeting with the NUT and my cardiac test on Feb 4.

Hi lexie, welcome aboard. Good luck!

@@Idonerds The first 5 days of my pre op diet were the worse. I cheated some but I still lost 10+ lbs. good luck to you as you start your journey.

@@MyssJones thanks, I did a little cheating but I'm back on track now I have 9 days left...

3 more days until the big day! Nervous, nervous, Nervous.

Tomorrow is the big day! I am so nervous and my mind is racing.

You ladies will do great!

I got sleeved on the 12th and I did my soft foods a little early... Been chewing real good. Haven't had any issues yet. My appetite is slowly starting to come back but i cant hold no more than 3 or 4 tablespoons before I get full. I've lost 30 lbs so far.
