I went public

  • Popular Post

I went public on Facebook. My close family and friends knew I was planning to get banded and I wanted to be able to share updates with them, so I shared with the rest of my friends.. mostly the comments were positive.

Are you public or private? Who have you told or not told and why?

  • Congratulations to you! Everyone that knows me had known for years that I wanted the Lapband. I am very public about it and most people are supportive. Proud of you!

  • I kept it quiet at first but as the weight started to literally fall off, I knew that most folks could figure it out anyway. I must say that all the comments have been positive so that's a good thing

  • I kept it private... too many of my relatives would be likely to say or think that they'd "never go that route," or have similar comments. I don't need to be judged on what tool I use to lose weight.

I have been very private, only telling two friends and not family. I hope to share more with my family as I see my weight dropping.

@@shantra I had my husband go to the pre-op class and final visit with my surgeon this week. I had been talking about the surgery for the past six months, but it was great to have him hear how much my whole eating habits have to change, and what will happen to me if I eat too fast, drink too quickly, eat too much sugar, etc. it really opened his eyes about how hard this is going to be. It is great you had your husband there to understand it all! Now if only my in-laws (father in law is a doctor and never had a weight issue) were so supportive...I got the "well has she ever tried a strict diet and exercise?" comment (they said this to my husband...good thing because I don't know if I could have had a polite answer!). As far as telling others, I have told my principal I'm having surgery that I feel is necessary for my health. A few know the truth, but I'm nervous about telling too many. I hope as I start to lose, I won't care as much! Surgery on Monday...can't wait!

Good luck as you go through the process! The hardest part for me has been this stinking liquid diet for the last 11 days! I am hungry! :)
