If you took Carafate after surgery, how long did the doctor prescribe you to take it?

I took Carafate every 6 hours for 3 weeks, and had little to no discomfort. I have been off of it for 9 days now and my stomach feels a little acidy.

I take carafate 2-4 times a day. My surgeon says I will probably have to be on it for life because of some of the meds that I take. And I have being taking it for a little over 2yrs.
