  1. Did your nutritionist give you a time to not eat past? Just curious to see how everyone's rules compare. Has anyone found that eating before bed slows your weight loss or doesn't effect it at all?

    HOUSTON Sleevers?

Welcome! Good luck! I just had mine June 11th and have had very very few complaints! Down 20lbs post surgery and 35lbs overall. Let us know if we can answer any questions.
  3. Anyone notice their TOM water retention got better/worse after surgery? I find it interesting how much water weight I could gain prior to surgery (like 11lbs during week of my period and the next- 11lbs gone!) and now I am not seeing those same fluctuations. I guess it's because I drink so much more now it keeps it moving.

    Antacids, how long?

Mine didn't have me take any. Just carafate for 5 days after surgery. I feel great and have no problems with acid in any way. I'm 1 month out.

Your doctor will pick one for you but most everyone here has their own goal weight. Mine is 150lb for myself, my surgeons goal is 170. So we differ by 20lbs. No biggie. A lot of times peoples goals will change too depending on how they feel and look when they get close! Good luck!

    Hit final goal today!

That's amazing! Great job, I am sure it feels wonderful to accomplish your goal! I hope maintenance comes easy for you!!
  7. I had this surgery solely to be healthy when husband and I want to start trying to have a baby. Did any of you have trouble finding a doctor who was well versed in bariatric patients?
  8. How long after being sleeved do leaks show up? Is there a common pattern like usually within the first 1-2months? Is there a safe period once we are past 5-6 month does that mean it's unlikely we will ever have a leak?? What are the signs of a leak?
  9. I when I started this process I has the belief that it would just be a walk in the park aka "the easy way out". Obviously we all know I was completely wrong and we work hard every day to make our sleeves do their job. What was the one misconception you had before your sleeve??
  10. My surgeon said it was ok to go on a boat tomorrow (3.5 weeks post op). I'm worried about getting motion sickness. Anyone go out on the lake this soon after sx? How did your stomach handle it?
  11. Shiner86

    Boating after sx?

Haha sorry, yes. Surgery=sx . I short hand that at work all the time for surgery notes that I have to do and it never occurred to me it would come off the other way. That's pretty funny though.

    Hiatal Hernia repair

I didn't have any heartburn before (my hernia was very small he said) and I don't have any heartburn after. Only had to take carafate after for one week.

    Hiatal Hernia repair

I Don't think there was any extra pain, once the gas pain was gone it was pretty smooth sailing. I had both done on June 11th. Ever so often I get a slight pain in my left side but I am told by month 2 that goes away.
  14. I my first 2 weeks I didn't have any pain on my left side. But now when I move around randomly I will get a dull pain. Like when I squat down or sit up. I really can't tell if it's stomach pain or abdominal pain. It's not over where any of my incisions are. Also, when I yawn my stomach spasms. Is that strange? Anyways, just wanted to see if anyone else had this kind of thing? Is it because I'm just now able to start feeling my stomach whereas it was numb before like people describe from the surgery? I plan on asking my surgeon tomorrow but just thought I would ask here. It's on my left side just below my rib cage.
  15. So I had a two week period where I wasn't losing anything which I know is normal. I thought it was a stall and I spoke to my surgeon about it (I'm 3 weeks post op, week 2 and 3, no losses) and he stated that I had the thickest set of musculature he's ever cut through. He stated based on my muscle mass I need 1200-1700 calories a day to lose weight. So basically I was starving myself at 800 calories. So I tried his way and lost 4lbs in two days from eating more. My question is, has anyone else had to significantly increase their calorie content? It's incredibly hard to do 3 weeks out, I have to constantly eat something. Not that I want to just add empty calories but I can only eat mushy foods right now. Ideas of calorie denser food? Basically I've just been adding real peanut butter each day since it's 250 calories per packet.
  16. Is there a sleep aid that is liquid, that works, is non addictive, and that your surgeon said was ok to take?

    Revision on Wednesday

What is a cascade stomach if you don't mind me asking?
  18. Shiner86

    Liquid sleep aid?

That's a great idea!! Also I wonder if they make liquid melatonin? That helps me sleep too!
  19. It's not that I workout hardcore but I do have a job where I walk literally all day or am doing something semi active for 8-10 hours. Right now he said to try and get to 1000-1200 but not to be shocked if I required a lot more based on my job, muscle mass etc. I don't really WANT to do that many calories cause I am really scared I will stretch out my sleeve and then it will be a worthless tool. This whole experience has really shown me how many calories I must have eaten to get here though! I guess I'll just keep adding the peanut butter to my protein shakes.
  20. I was at the gym working out by doing laps at the lap pool and when I got out this little girl (probably 3-4 yo) said look mommy she has a baby in her belly (I assure you I don't) and then her wonderful older sister says, no she's just fat. Definitely won't miss comments like these when the weight is gone.

    Post Op June 2014 Sleevers

THE SCALE MOVED!!!!!! After two weeks staying the same number (thought I had failed 3 weeks after surgery) and then this morning I was down 5lbs!! My surgeon told me I needed to eat more, so that's what I did and IT WORKED! I'm so happy! Just gonna keep on keepin on with my plan!
  22. When we are 3-4 months out an on real food is it not recommended that we ever eat soup again? Isn't this considered a slider food? I guess I don't understand if we can have it, then what's the difference between drinking while eating or eating soup? Anyone else have these thoughtS?

    ¡Muy Caliente!

I ate spicy food preop and post op. I'm 3 weeks post up and regularly add some spice to my food. Prob best to ask your surgeon though.

    Pre-surgery meltdown

I felt the same way. Cried multiple times before the big day and while in the bed waiting on my surgeon. My fears were mainly with the surgery itself and anesthesia. I let my anesthesiologist know as soon as he got there and he gave we something for anxiety. They were also nice enough to knock me out before going into the surgery suite . My advice, tell people your fears, ask your surgeon a million questions until you feel comfortable. I think the fear is really normal. The surgery wasn't bad. The two days after kinda sucked but every time I walked I felt better. Also felt significantly better when they quit giving me morphine since it made me nauseated. Just keep reading and learning. You will do great!!!!!
  25. Well you could be like me and gained 3lbs this week. It's about to be TOM. Calculated my calories for today- around 800. My surgeon told me I have some of the highest muscle mass of any patient he has ever had and I may need more calories. I don't know how I can shove in any more calories without just adding on food with sugars and such. I'm so frustrated. I broke down and yelled about it today while discussing it with my husband. I really hope this stall ends soon. Otherwise I feel like I made a huge mistake. Ugh just frustrated!!!
