Surgery 5/6/2014

Hi team! I'm 5 days post op and was able to go for a mile walk today :) granted I was in some pain but I felt better after the walk. Still having a good deal of pain at the largest incision site on the right side of my belly. It often feels like it's being pulled but from the inside. I also haven't bad a BM yet; is that normal? I still find that I have a lot do pressure and gas in my abdominal cavity from surgery which is the most uncomfortable part-- I'm hoping that goes away in the next few days. Lastly, after any sip of water and/or protein shake I have gas bubbles and discomfort in my belly. I'm taking small sips but I'm wondering if I'm still ingesting a lot of air. I am wondering if all these reports are typical at 5 days out. Would love feedback! I don't have any contacts or friends that have gone through this process so looking forward to sharing and meeting others through this forum :)

Hi K! Congrats! I was sleeved 5/5 and can relate to your entire post feeling the same symptoms! I haven't walked a mile but do walk about 1/4 mile every two hours or so, sometimes even in the middle of the night.

My latest issue was the mental challenge earlier today as my family sat to eat dinner. I stayed in my bedroom, however my mind kept wandering, visioning their meal :(. I even felt hungry, it was very hard but I overcame it. Tomorrow's another day :). Good luck, I hope you continue to feel better each day! God bless us May Sleevers!! ❤️

Hi. I was sleeved 5/8 and I too have pain with every sip I take. It's a pain in my stomach or sleeve now. I have heard that it could be gas bubbles and I took Gas X but it only mildly helped and I have heard for some people it passes after a week or so. I have not once had a feeling of hunger yet. I have had head hunger but not stomach hunger. I am trying to focus on water, protein shakes, and occasional broth, sugar free popsicles, 1/4 cup tomato soup or bean puree diluted. I stopped taking all pain meds and all of my nausea went away. Walking every day a little more is certainly helping. Good luck!

I was sleeved on May 6 and I have the same thing with always feeling like there is air bubbles fighting against the fluids I'm drinking, but I'm getting it down anyway. Practically a full time job! I'm also trying to walk as much as possible without over doing it.

Try using a straw to drink.

It does go away, I promise :-)

I am still having the same pains,May 7 was my day. Im not susposed to use a straw. I have noticed if i hold liquid in my mouth a second before swallowing i dont swallow as much air.

I was sleeved on 5/6. My first 2 days home were pretty rough, lots of nausea & unable to tolerate much in the way of Protein shakes or Water. I spoke with my surgeon late Thursday night & he suspected the nausea was due to the liquid pain med (Lortab). He called in a oral dissolvable nausea medication (Zofran), and asked me to try to avoid using the Lortab if possible. That worked! He also asked me to start taking PO Colace, to help to soften my stool. He told me that he likes to see his patient's have a small BM by 3-4 days post-op. If no BM by day 5 on Colace, then he asked that I let him know. I had my first on day 4, thank goodness.

I also have the bubbling feeling, but I've noticed the PO Prilosec I take each morning helps. I try to eat every 3 hours, then sip water in between. The water is the hardest part for me! I'm on full liquids, so this is what I've had so far today:

0700- Protein shake

1000- Cream of chicken soup & SF pudding w/unflavored Protein powder

1300- Protein shake

1600- SF Jello w/unflavored protein powder

I am getting tired of liquids- can't wait for puréed in 8 days!

I've been walking about 1/4 mile, I just get so tired! I'm waiting for the storms to stop so I can try for more today :).

I am so thankful for this board, makes me feel like I'm not alone on this journey to a smaller/healthier me!
