May 2014 Sleevers

I finally got my insurance approval this week and my surgery is scheduled for May 20. If seems SO far away but hoping the time will fly by. I've been trying to adapt my diet to more like it will need to be post-op but find myself eating horribly about once a week. I think it's the food funerals starting. I did really well during the week and had lost 2 pounds this week and then last night after work ate whatever I wanted (it wasn't good). Are others going they this same struggle?

Would love to find people who are anxiously awaiting their May surgery dates and be here to provide support for each other as we start this journey to change our lives!

Hello

I was originally an April sleever-even started liquids for 2 days. And than had to reschedule. My new date is May 1st.

The anticipation of surgery and the unknown was almost unbearable. I guess I'm somewhat of a control freak and not having any control is hard for me. Anyone else having same problems?

Yes I am the same way but the closer I get to my date the easier it is for me to be less nervous for some reason. Right now in just really wanting it to be over and mine isn't until the 13th. Ugh!

I have had my pre op appt but not an ultrasound?!?! Wondering why? I have never had any surgeries before. Wouldn't they like to see what my insides look like?!?

But you DO have total control over this entire process--you are choosing to have gastric sleeve surgery. You can call it off at any time. You definitely call the shots on this one.

That said, of course I totally understand your feelings: it sounds like the same internal struggle I am going through where part of me wants to make healthier choices, but another part of me wants to sabotage those efforts. Try to tell yourself that it's alright, you're going through with this surgery, and it will help you make better choices in the future. It's what I'm doing, myself, every day, and I know it's not easy!

Hello, my surgery date is May 12. Just waiting on insurance approval.

Hi Susan - I'm a May 12-er also. Good luck, from Dallas area.

Just had a pre-surgery pulmonary appointment. That spawned two more appointments....*sigh*....1 - A sleep study and 2 - some further breathing testing.

At least with all of the pre-op checks I feel like I will have been evaluated well prior to heading into surgery.

I'm also May 6th, I start my liquid diet on 4/26!

I have only one more test and that is the pre-surgical testing on April 28. I did the sleep study and pulmonary doctor is forcing me to use his CPAP machine, if i don't he won't give approval for the surgery. I wish it was May 12th already.

Mines May 5th. I'm hoping my surgeon doesn't have any margaritas before my surgery since its Cinco De Mayo. lol PLUS its also 2 days before MY BIRTHDAY! So happy bday to me. Im just really neverous and scared. :/

Alicia, my surgery is scheduled for May 5 too! On Cinco de Mayo my fat's going BYE-o!

I'm on Long Island, Plainview, NY.

Hi Susan~

I'm on LI too...Port Jeff. Who is your Dr?

All the best to you :)

I am May 27 too!! Very nervous, hope our Docs don't celebrate Memorial Day lol

Right now I am scheduled for May 27th. I have blood work this week and my last NUT meeting then everything gets submitted and I hope approved!

Thinking the same thing, they don't do ultrasounds before??? There might be obstacles lurking inside!

Got a call from my Surgeon's office changing my day from May 22nd to May 20th. When I got home there was a letter in the mail saying that the insurance only approved me tor 1 night in the hospital. :o That's scary! I am having a hernia repair as well as a lower esophageal sphincter repair and the sleeve. I haven't quite freaked out yet, but I'm on the verge.

I think the one night at the hospital is the standard for this surgery, but it doesn't mean that if you need to stay longer because of complications that your insurance won't cover it. So fear not!

Sorry for my late response. I'm waiting now for my EGD appointment to be set and sometime today I'm supposed to get all the pre-surgery requriements emailed to me, but I do know there is a 2 week diet I have to to on which I'm told is basically a protein shake for breakfast and lunch and a Lean Cuisine for dinner. Not sure yet if I can have any fruit or veggies throughtout the day yet, but I will let you know! Did you get your info yet? For me, May 13th can't get here soon enough. I'm so ready!!!!

Hello future sleevers! I finally got my date today - May 13th! I just have to have an upper GI in the next couple weeks which I'm dreading, but it will be worth it! All those prior to May 13th, keep me posted on your progress and let me know how you all are doing! Best of luck!!

I'm May 13th too! I've already had my upper gi. All I have left is my pre-op appt. and meet with my surgeon again, and then my nurse-teach class. Do you have to do a 2 week pre op diet?
