I have been searching the forums, but cannot find this topic for some reason. I want to hear from the vets out there. Would you do it again if you had the choice? How would you rate your experience with WLS complications between 1 and 10 with 10 being severe and long term, and 1 being no complications from surgery at all?

I'm almost 11 months post-op, at goal and YES would do it again 100000 times over. I had zero complications, and am now working to actually gain a few pounds back, as I feel I am underweight.

Im still preop, but most people I've seen answer this question say that the only regret they have is that they didn't do it sooner...I know you were asking the vets, but I just thought I would chime in too!! :)

Almost 3 years post and would sign the release form right now, if I had to. On your scale, my complications have been a 1, physically. About a 5 mentally. I have learned things about myself I never anticipated. That was the toughest part. But not so tough I wouldn't do it again. I have grown from it.

I'm not a vet but at 5 months out even if my weight loss stopped right now I would do it again in a second! As the previous poster said my only regret is not having done it sooner.

would ABSOLUTELY do it again! Best decision I ever made after marrying my husband! I had some minor complications immediately post-op with nausea but it was a reaction to the narcotic pain meds. I also have had reflux issues but I had that pre-surgery too.

I've had complications (structure) and a new hernia among other things but still would do it again. I'm sleeved as if Aug 2012

I'm not a vet but at 3.5 months out I'm down 98 pounds and off 8 of 9 meds. I had internal bleeding 5 days post op that required a second surgery. I regretted having surgery for about 1 month, but that changed quickly.

I would definitely do it again even if I knew about the second surgery beforehand.

I'm only 6 weeks post-op but I would do it again in a heart beat. My only regret is not having it sooner. No complications and other than the first two weeks, a very uneventful recovery. I'm a sleever believer. :-)

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I would have this surgery again every year for the rest of my life if I had to. No questions and no hesitation. I had zero complications from surgery.

Since this is the Vets Forum, as moderator I'm going to move this to the General Gastric Sucess Stories where Vets can respond as well as non-Vets. Thanks.

I can whole-heartedly say I'd do it all over again in a minute. Even knowing how much it was going to hurt afterwards, I'd do it again.

My rating is a 1. I've had no long term complications. The only real problem I experienced was in the 1st 10 day post-op. The liquid pain medication made me gag so much that I couldn't drink it. So I just lived with the pain. And I went through the whole, "What the Hell did I do to myself?" phase.

Would I do it all over again?

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! A little over three years out, I'd say 1 on complications and/or regret. I didn't have too many mental/emotional issues along the way either. Or maybe work has been so overwhelming, I've not had a chance to worry about anything else LOL.

I'd do it over again for sure. I don't regret the timing, though, as it was the right choice for me, at the right time.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
