How are the internal staples removed?

Recommended Posts

I'm 5 days post op and staples come out on April 1. How are the internal ones removed? I can't imagine another incision??

They're not removed.

How is that? Are they dissolvable?

No they do not dissolve there are 3 rows of very little ones on both inside and out of the stomach.

Yeah scar tissue eventually forms over them.

Your surgeon didn't explain this to you prior to surgery?

I was a little freaked out by it too when I first heard that the little staples don't come out. Watch this video, it talks more about it here:

The staples are titanium. Completely hypoallergenic. As someone said, scar tissue will form around them and they will be yours forever.

Thanks for the info. He may have explained this but it was a lot of info at once. :-)

Like the others have explained, the 3 rows of staples are what is holding your sleeve together. My surgeon even showed me pictures of what it would look like after surgery. Nothing to worry about...my daughter has 8 titanium screws in her collar bone and even went through security at an airport with no problem.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
