just got the approval call today!

I got the approval call this afternoon, but I can't get happy cause my family is not happy I'm getting surgery. They say I'm not that big (240lbs).. I know they are concerned for my safety, but I feel like I'm disappointing them..advice needed.

Your family is not happy. Are you happy? Driving your car is more dangerous than getting the surgery. Even staying obese is more dangerous. Are they unhappy about any of those things. Stop worrying about what makes other people (even family) happy and concentrate on you and what will make you happy. Mark my words......they WILL be happy when they see the new you and see how the new you makes you feel. Good Luck.

Thank you soooooo much!

Some times it's hard for people to embrace change. We can become so complacent with our everyday lives that when there is even the slightest "ripple" or "wave" we panic or start opposing. I would have to agree with Recycled... when they see your health improving, self confidence, etc. etc. they will "get on board". They love you and I am sure they want the best for you. We fear the things that are unknown and maybe they don't know enough about the benefits yet and it kind of has them concerned...over time they will adjust. Wishing you the best...

Verrrry true, a family friend had sleeve 2012..that is what made my family disapprove wls. Cause the family friend lost so much weight and they said she looks unhealthy and 10-15 yrs older. Plus she's obsess with excersing and she wants to lose more weight. They are afraid I will look older and become obsessed with wanting to get unhealthy skinny.

My friends and family said the same...and they were comparing the sleeve to the earliest gastric bypasses...I have an aunt who had bypass in 1993, and has had trouble with strictures.

I chose the sleeve because of the fewer complications, and great success rate. I know it is a difficult decision, and only one you can make. You have to know how you feel, and how much your weight is affecting your health and life.

I love my sleeve...My only regret is not doing it sooner. I am 10 weeks out, 40 lbs down. and feeling wonderful.
