I'm Starving!

I literally feel deep hunger pains every time I sip water and my shakes!!!! I was sleeved 2-5-14 please tell me this is going to stop and I'll start feeling satisfied instead of empty. All I feel now is regret wondering did I make the right decision?! #superfrustrated

It likely isn't hunger pangs when you sip at this point. Your stomach was just cut, it's still swollen, tissues need to heal. The discomfort is post-op discomfort and spasm of your stomach's response to what's coming down. . Trust me it ALL gets better.

Again...you just had surgery. Be patient.

It totally gets better. Really. Honestly.

R u taking anything like Prilosec & also Gas X strips that melt in your mouth really help.

I hear you! My first week was no cake walk either. Now five weeks out, aside from the feeling of being full after two bites, I don't feel like I've been sleeved at all. Every time I saw a "it will get better" post, I wanted to claw my eyes out :o . Little by little you will get the hang of your sleeve. Everyone moves forward at their own pace, you'll do great! Congrats on your new sleeve!

Hi There: Had the same problem and discussed it at my follow up appointment today. The Physician Assistant explained it this way she said

"We removed a large part of your stomach. You stomach is in shock. It is 80-85% smaller and needs to do the work of a normal sized stomach. Those spasms will lessen over time when your stomach finally realizes it can do the same job with less power"

Makes sense and I am almost 9 days post op and they are so much better. Now only sometimes when I swallow do I feel it. Not gone completely but doesn't happen every single time something hits my belly like it did before.

I was super worried about this too. I hate the feeling. Bentyl helps (did they prescribe that for you?)

I'm sorry. That Bentyl is an anti-spasmotic and it helps so much. Maybe call your surgeon tomorrow if it really bugging you and ask for an anti-spasmotic like ie. Bentyl. Ranitidine is just Zantac.... They gave me Prilosec (same type of drug).

Yes, Lynn, I am :) .

I have the same exact problem. I'm hoping switching from clear liquids to full liquids this week helps. But jeesh! My stomach was cramping and spasming so much! It literally hurt!

Im 2.5 weeks out so just introduced pureed foods. The feeling gets to me when something nee is introduced or if my drinks or too cold or if im full. Let me tell you.. head hunger, I thought I had that managed.. being full and being satisfied are TWO TOTALLLLY different things!

It does get better tho. Just listen to your new stomach and let it tell u whats right :)

Congrats on all us sleevers =~}
