I Did It, I Cheated... Help

Recommended Posts

On my 5th pre op day i went to McDonalds and got a 5 piece mighty wing. And today i ate some chicken noodle Soup by Campbells that was 70 calories. I have a cold and been feeling really sick. My pro op diet consist of only 5 shakes a day, Water, crystal light and sugar free Jello. I was told to lose 20 pounds within 2 weeks but only lost 5 pounds the first week. My advocate adviced me that if i didn't lose that 20 pounds by the 2nd surgery will be cancled on the 3rd.

By no means am I any expert here BUT I would say forget about it and move on! Stay OFF the scale until you absolutely HAVE to get on one (in the dr's office) and do your best from here on out.

Are those 5 shakes Protein shakes? If so, are getting the correct amount of Protein in each one?

My pre-op diet requires at LEAST 60 grams of protein per day.

Interesting that they DEMAND that you lose 20 pounds in just 2 weeks~ if you could do that, why would you need surgery in the first place?

In case you need encouragement: Come on, Linda305! You can do this! You can do ANYTHING for another week. Stay focused. Keep your eye on the prize.

In case you need a stern talking to: Linda305! WTH are you doing? self-sabotage! Afraid of success, fear of losing food? Drink those shakes! Suck it up! Figure out why you are doing this BEFORE you have surgery. The food thing doesnt get much easier immediately post op.

Premier Protein chocolate shakes have 30g Protein, 160 calories, 1g sugar 24 different Vitamins and i think 5g of carbs. Most patients get put on a 60-80g protein a day regiment for the pre-op and post op. If you are having issues getting protein in, drink a couple of these. they taste better cold and with a straw lol. I don't like many Protein drinks but I can tolerate these. Also if you aren't on the "liquid" stage of your preop diet, eat a couple low carb low sugar high Protein Bars. The Protein Drinks fill me up and then I drink a lot of Water to keep that "full" feeling.

Everyone has slip ups, just move on. Everyone has slip ups every once in a while.

I'm 5 days sleeved.......... I can say I cheated on my pre op diet........ I was suppose to do 4protein shales, Water, Jello, chicken broth..... The purpose is to make ur liver smaller so ur recovery is faster.......... The doctor wanted me to lose 10 pounds... I only lost 5........... All I can say now looking back.. I wish I would've done the pre op diet correctly... I feel I failed myself in some kind of way............ Just stay strong and focused....... It will be worth it.........

Thank you Bluetatto. My doctor only wants us to drink Optifast which has 160 calories, 17g sugar, 14g protein.

Linda, I'm on day 7 of my 7 day pre-op diet. My surgeon allows 4 Protein shakes, broth, sugar free Jello. He didn't give me a weight loss requirement...I find it odd that yours did and I agree with lilrosie that if you could lose 20 lbs in 2 weeks you wouldn't have this problem. None of us would!

My surgeon gave me a list of acceptable Protein Shakes along with the serving size (I got that part screwed up and was only getting 52 grams of Protein on days 1 and 2 because I was drinking the small shakes and not the bigger ones. Ooops!)

This is HARD, sweetie. No one said it would be easy. But it's temporary. After surgery, we'll have an amazing tool with which to lose our excess weight.

I totally understand the desire to cheat. I've uttered more four letter words this week than I have in a long time, but I've stuck with it. And when I want to cheat, I just keep thinking how much I'll resent myself for it later if I do. I feel like isitjustme when she said she wished she would have done hers correctly...I feel like I wouldn't let it go if I actually did cheat. So I haven't. But it's been HARD.

Give yourself some credit for doing something that's by no means easy. At all. But we can do this!!! That being said, I'd take a good long hard look at whether you're really ready for this surgery. Can you tell yourself that you're going to behave differently with food after surgery when you've had such a hard time with the pre-op diet? I'm not being judgy, I promise...these are the questions I would ask myself.

Another concern is that you're sick. My surgeon made it clear that having surgery when you're sick can be dangerous. You need to tell him - or maybe reschedule your surgery. Give yourself a little more time if you can. Maybe even find another surgeon that has a plan you can deal with better.

Whatever you decide, I'm sending you good wishes and prayers. This is really, really hard and only those of us who've gone through it or are going through it can really understand how you're feeling. :-)

Sending you all my best wishes!

Thanks Hotmess. I know I'm ready for this surgery. I am not saying everyone cheats but im willing to say my failure. Some people have one pre op day or one week pre op. I have two weeks and i will admit its very hard. My doctor is so crazy to think i can lose 20 pounds in two weeks. I have gotten back on the wagon and started my shakes again. But thanks for the well wishes and i will try harder.

I just cheated too.....: ( I bite a piece of chicken but I moved on. I drank a gallon if walk and a shake. I wanted to flush my body. I then went on to weigh myself at Publix and I have lost 12 lbs (I pray that scale is accurate) in 4 days. I am suppose to lose 10lbs by 11/26/13 (tomorrow) my pre-op appointment. Linda you can do it! You still have time!

I started on Friday and today is Monday. The shake have had me urinating at least 11 times a day and I drink a least a gallon of Water a day. I look forward to my hot organic vegetable broth each night. I have cheated but I think I am doing better with my will power than my cravings.

I'm glad you admitted your shortcomings and now you can get back on the wagon. I'm on my 4th day of my pre-op diet but I have a 1000 calorie diet as opposed to liquids only. I have been following the plan although tonight I had about 1100 calories. Keep pushing thru and think about your goal. Maybe try going for a walk when you start to think about food. Another key to losing weight is getting the proper amount of sleep. I lose slower or not at all when I don't get enough rest to allow my body to burn calories. I wish you the best of luck on your journey.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
