Cruise At 3 Months Post Op! Help!

Recommended Posts

I need some advice. Anyone has gone on a cruise so soon after surgery?

I don't know what I should be eating?

All I eat now is Greek yogurt, babybel, Premier Protein, and some other Protein drinks/bars.

I'm still not used to my sleeve and havent really been eating "real" food. The cruise is in a few weeks (about 4) and I'm starting to freak out a little.

While I haven't been on a cruise POST OP, I have recently went on a cruise and I thought about what they had. First let me say there's a TON of options!! At every restaurant they are very happy to accommodate and please their guests. All the buffets have Soups, yogurts, cottage cheese, applesauce, scrambled eggs etc. If I were in your shoes, I would pack stuff from home just in case. There will be a fridge in your room.

Have so much fun!!! :)

Yes, agree with Elsnanny. Truly, of all options a cruise is best. You can order low carb meals ahead of time and they will knock themselves out to accommodate. You need to stay away from the midnight buffets (no good can come from that.) And even if it's all-inclusive, although it most likely isn't, the good news is that you will save a ton by not drinking on the cruise.

I'd bring some Premier Protein and some unflavored Protein powder and just supplement where you can.

Well let me tell you.............

You should be eating dense Protein by now whether you are going on a cruise or not.

I went on a cruise at 5 months out and ate basically whatever I wanted. I know the rules and would order my entree and basically eat all the Proteins. Skip all the carbs, I would order desert and take one bite just to satisfy.

I also took a Protein Bar with me when we were off the shp incase I got hungry. But we went to Mexico, my husband ordered chicken fajitas and I was able to eat just a few pieces of his chicken.< /p>

But by three months, I was consuming dense Proteins and had not problems

I went on one at 9 weeks out and had absolutely no problems! I brought Protein Bars and Protein Powder just in case. I don't know what cruise line you are sailing with but on Carnival, there's seafood or chicken served every night, and you can order egg whites for Breakfast. Have fun!

Thanks!

I've been thinking about this, and I realized that I have grown to be dependent of myfitnesspal, and I have not gone a day without logging food in since my surgery. So I'm terrified of being left with only myself to calculate what I eat. I will not have it of course, because Internet is very expensive on cruises so I cannot afford that. But I am terrified of not being able to use it every time I eat. How do I go about that? I keep thinking. I don't know how many grams of Protein are in each thing. I know, I'm a little obsessed with knowing the Protein count of everything.

Make yourself a cheat sheet of generic items. Portion size, nutritional info and calories. Also they will have computers on the ship that is much cheaper to access. Try and log on once a day for a few minutes or every other day. That might help you feel more in touch with your food logs :)

This may not be a popular response but:

Have fun and don't worry about it! I've been on 4 cruises (all post lapband, none after being sleeved) and never gained on any cruises. There's healthy choices at the restaurants and the buffets (we did breakfast/dinner in the dining room and lunch at the buffet or in port). At 3 months u should be on a normal diet. Yes, internet usage on a cruise is pricey. if I were u (and I might get blasted for saying so) I would forget about the math and enjoy myself. The worst that will happen is ull go over/under by a few numbers for 1 week. Big deal. In the grand scheme, 1 week will not make or break u. Ur sleeve is forever.

We're planning a 16 day Hawaiian cruise (out of LA) for April. Never been on 1 longer than a week (guess I'm gunna hafta do laundry) and I can barely contain my excitement.

Have fun!

When you put it like that, it does not sound like a big deal I guess. I am a food addict and I am scared that not logging my food in mfp will make me cheat more and make bad choices. And also, ever since my surgery, every single pound i lose, i always think will be the last pound i lose! i guess I'm traumatized by my history with weight. I just need to get over that i guess. But you are right, I've been on some cruises in the past, and (not that I ever ate from there often), I did see a lot of healthy choices available. My family also said the same, to just relax and forget about numbers and just make good choices. I don't disagree with you, so I'm going to try an stop stressing about that!

Thank you for your input.

It's kinda been a family tradition for years; we always go on a cruise each year! But it's mostly been to the Caribbean.

Your cruise sounds amazing! :-) and 16days! Wow. I hope you have a blast when it comes!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
