I have been tossing around having plication for a long time. I am sure most of you have been in the same boat, humming and hawing about whether this is the right choice or not. For me, I am having doubts about the long term success of plication. Is there anyone on this forum that has been plicated for 2 years or more and if so how many of you have regained weight? Also a question for everyone that has been plicated - does the "unknown" of long term consequences of plication worry you?

H21-I did research for almost 8months before I decided to get plicated. From what I've read the plication will help you loose weight but it's not G-bypass, or the sleeve. We will not loose 100 pounds without working hard. Plication is just a TOOL for us. I had my surgery April 20th and so far I've lost 30pounds w/out exercise. I started eating solids on Friday and am most def joining the gym tomm. I am scared of paying all that $$ & and not getting the results I want.

With the plication, you won't have the same complications as with other bariatric options. For me it was safer and with less down time.

I've seen studies from patients 10 years out. The results were very encouraging. Not one had gained their weight back. No one had serious side effects. I found it especially encouraging because I know they have improved their techniques since then, so I think the current people involved in research will do even better. I'll try to find the research I'm referring to and will post it later.

Hmmmmm, looks like they've taken down the research and you now have to purchase it to have access to it. Figures. The study was done by Dr. Talebpour, from Iran, and he looked at the results of over 500 people after 10 years. Complication rate of less than 1%. 55% excess weight loss after 4 years. At 10 years, i believe it was the same. I was confused by this research since i had heard that there are not long term stats on the procedure. When I emailed Dr. Ortiz regarding the research, I was told that the surgery has been improved upon, and that it has been refined since the first plication patients. I expect the "new" stats will improve as well. If you google "Dr. Talebpour" his name comes up as "the father of the gastric plication procedure.".
