  1. Jackiemac- I would suggest going back to basics. Eat what i think we all ate the first couple of weeks. Protein shakes an 4oz meals. Can you walk at all? Maybe yoga? Go online and search for exceecise for non-mobile people. I'm sure you will find something. Hope all goes well. Keep us posted

    Plication Surgery

Lois-the procedure itself takes about 45mins. She will probably stay in the hospital for observation for 2 days on a liquid diet. The first few days are a bit rough but she should be up in no time. I had surgery on a Thursday and I was back in the office on a Tuesday. Her diet must completely change, she will need to learn how to eat slower and smaller portions. My biggest challenge was my mind. "IT" was also hungry!! I waited a month before starting cardio. Exercise will be her new Best Friend. Plication IS NOT like the sleeve or bypass she will need work to loose weight, which in my opinion is harder but it will teach you how to actually eat healthier. I started with 267 pounds and as of today I've lost 80pounds. My goal is 167. Some weeks you will 3-4pounds while other weeks you will remain the same or gain 1-2 pounds. Eating less processed foods, more greens & fruit with a some cardio is what's worked for me. This site will be great for your daughter, have her go on YouTube as well. It helped me alot. There's also a few ladies on here like (tobethin30 & Becky) that have had great success. Good luck to the both of you!! Keep us posted.

    Passing Blood Through Your Bowelsi

Wondering in GA- how are you feeling? I personally didn't experience passing blood but I heard of another male who did. It sounds like it can be possible but keep harassing the doc. Keep us posted. Kika

Carlak- Biotin is another name for Vitamin H. It helps strengthen your hair and nails. Some foods like cauliflower, bananas, carrots, egg yolk and sardines have biotin. My doc recommended I have two supplements daily. I also take 2 shakes a day. My hair thin-out just a bit. Hope this helps.

Bos123- Plication, in April of this year. My start weight was 260 and today I am at 193. I feel great and most importantly my health is getting better. I have slips ups with junk food here and there but I make sure I go to the gym at least 4 days a week. My goal weight is 160 and then tummy tuck time!! LOL Good luck and be patient. Plication is slow but it is effective.

    Started Training!

Hey all!! I started Zumba two weeks ago and today I did an hour with a trainer. Let me start off by "saying" that I thought I was going to pass out!!! I busted my bu** but I did an entire hour. Am doing 2 days Zumba with a 30 minute treadmill walk inclined to 5 and 2 days of circuit training (whatever that means). I've noticed a decrease in weight loss already. To date I've lost 33 pounds. I am hoping to be able to run for 3-4 minutes straight without stopping. I can 2 mins right now but my poor knees give out. Side note (not excercise related): today I carried (3) 10pound ice bags for 5mins and I realized how much harder my legs/body were working to move. I've put my body through alot and am looking forward to a healthier, skinner me. How's everyone else doing?
  10. What are you eating? You might need to increase your cardio? Change up the routine. Whenever I have a stall I go back to basics.4oz of food for Breakfast, lunch and dinner. 2 Protein shakes and Water through out the day. Hope this helps.
  11. I finally reached 199 pounds!!! I haven't been in the hundreds for over 15 years. My total weight loss since April has been 61 pounds. It's taken alot of cardio and hard work to loss this weight but im enjoying every minute of it My new goal is 160, which I hope I reach by Jan 2013. Good luck All!!! Kika

    Sweet Underland

Than you!!! You have also made amazing strides!! Its funny but my doc keeps reminding me that our surgery will only help with 60pounds and a few weeks ago I told him about you. Last time i read I believe you reached 80 pounds. :) Have you kept loosing? Ive noticed a slight decrease on the amount I loose weekly but I'm still very happy loosing 2 pounds a week. Keep us posted ms. Skinny!!
  13. Ana-Do you work or have any affiliation with Dr.Ortiz? Am not here to bash any doctor but Cee is correct, THIS site is suppose to be an open fourum. We should feel comfortable to post anything we experience or may think without getting attacked. I don't think anyone has ever claimed to be a doctor or a specialist in plication but we are experiencing it. Most of the patients do indeed have other factors we are not aware of. With that being said: we shouldn't disregard any complaints or issues doctors or clicnics in any state or country may have.

    I Did It!

Tobethin- this is AMAZING!!! Congrats!! What's your goal weight? I haven't heard of many Plixies losing more than 60pounds. Am very happy for you! Keep it up!!
  16. With the plication your stomach is folded in twice, not stapled or cut. Our stomachs are intact they are just shaped like a half a moon or banana for a few of us. With the restriction you can only eat a certain amount of food before you get full or feel sick from over-eating. My personal issue was or still is I eat without hunger. It's all in my mind. I eat bc am used to eating at a certain time or craze all day, Even with Mental Hunger I've lost 50 pounds by eating healthier and lots of cardio.
  17. JG- Am sorry you feel like the plication is a failure. My suggestion: GO BACK to BASICS. 4oz off Protein every three hours and lots of fluids (sugar free). I've lost 50pounds since April. My start weight was 260 and I couldn't be happier. I do work out 3-4 days week (hard) and Ive completely changed the way I eat. I don't eat anything out of can or processed. I try to eat fresh, whole foods. I have a Protein shake (low carbs) every morning and after each workout. Don't give up, take another look at what your eating. If your exercising 5 days a week you should be losing weight. Your calorie intake would be at a negative if your working out 5 days a week. Stay away from bread, chz, and anything fried. Have you contacted your doc? Or your nutrionist? Good luck and AGAIN: Dont give up!!! Kika
  18. WS- Good luck on this journey. I didn't tell anyone with the exception of my husband. Since I eat healthier And go to gym no one has even questioned it. Like you I prefer my privacy but I also didn't want the questions, or people saying a took the easy way out. It's funny I think the bypass is easy pisy, but with the plication you really do have to work on loosing weight. The plication is your little helper ( a tool). I've lost 50 pounds since April and I couldn't be happier. I hate my trainer when am with him but I love what my body is changing to. Research, and ask questions. This website is the reason I choose plication over sleeve and bypass. Good-Luck!!
  19. Stina Congratulations on your pregnancy!!! 43 pounds is great. Continue to eat healthy. What did the doc say about being preggers with the plication? I actually want baby #3. I wish you the best and pls keep us updated with the baby process.

    Complication!

Am so sorry, you guys are going through this. The important thing is that you caught it early. Did you guys contact the OCC? Was the emerg team aware of what plication is? Am in Miami and only 2 doctors in the city know about the procedure. Keep us posted and be strong for her.
  21. Hey J, Welcome to the club. My surgery has been a success. I started off at 260 and am down to 218 in almost 3months. To me the worst part was getting a skinny, healthy brain. Am not hungry but my mind is. Am going to the gym 4 days a week and drinking alot of Water. Follow doctors orders and you should be great. I wish you the very best, keep us updated.

Protein is the key. Twice a day if your working out. Biotin does help.

    Beginning Weight And Progress

Butterfly- I was 260 post-op and I am currently 225 (2months & 3 days later). I still have alot of restriction. For example I can only eat 1 egg for Brkfast and for lunch maybe 4 sushi rolls. I try to get in 2 protein shakes a day and on a really good day i even eat 4oz of cottage chz or a Greek ygrt. For dinner it's usually the second shake or a string cheese. I try not to eat much at night. Its taken me this long to realize when to stop eating and listen to my stomach. I still sip a bit of water when I eat which you are not suppose to.

    Started Training!

Hey Pranjala This is the first time I've exercised since 2009. I waited until my one month anniversary got clearance and am not stopping (LOL).According to my doc the plication will help us loose 60-70pounds without exercise but after that it's all up to us. I think that the first 3months are crucial so I want to loose as much as possible. Good luck to you!! You will feel great when you see the pounds come off.
  25. Today marks my one month anniversary. One month flew by!!! I've lost 30 pounds so far without any type of exercise. I can drink cold Water with ice, and I can eat anything pretty much. I was cleared for solids on Friday but I've continued to measure my food in 4oz containers. I can sleep on my stomach for a while before starts to bother me but I still have to drink water a few times a night which is annoying. Issues so far: I can't help drinking water while I eat, which fills me up quick, I keep eating after 2 to 3oz and I feel like my food gets stuck in my chest. Worst pain ever!!! It's happ a few times BUT I continue not to listen to my stomach (I need to work on this ASAP). I signed up for the GYM today and tomm I start working out after many, many years (so many I didn't even own sneakers) LOL. The plan: work out 6 days a week, maintain 3.5oz size Brkfast, lunch and dinner and (2) 4oz Protein shakes a day. My goal is to loose 20pounds by June 20th. Start weight: 260, current weight: 230.
