I am 5 days away from surgery and have waited so long for this...but now i am second guessing myself. If i can do this two week pre op why cant i do this any time? Do i really want to give up all my favorite foods? Some of which i may never be able to eat again?

Malvord...believe me when I say all those thoughts were in most of our minds. But remember why you took this path in the first place. Two weeks is one thing but, the rest of your life is another. i for one did well on new diets for about 3 weeks. Then I'd hit a plateau and go another week. If that scale didn't move I'd immediately quick and eat my way back to where I started and then some sometimes.

I went the lapband route the first time around because I was afraid to cut into organs. It was a great tool but, in the end I had trouble with it and it had to come out...so after yet again gaining weight back I knew this is what I needed to do for myself, my health and my life. Believe me I had doubts a few weeks before, then again 3 days before...scared, worried but, at the same time excited. It's natural!

Only you can decide if it's right for you though. Write the pros and cons of the surgery, do more research and search deep within you about whether this is for you.

Good luck and thinking of you.

Thank you so much for your response!!! I do feel that this is the best thing to do for me...i think my confusion lies in the comments that my best friend makes.

At first she and i were going to do this together but her insurance was a problem. My insurance was no problem at all. And she was still supportive of me but lately it seems like shes trying to talk me out of it..making very sure i know all the horror stories!!! And i do realize its not all shiny and happy all the time...but what is? She and I are about the same size and she has also made it very clear she doesnt want me to be skinnier than her. I just dont know how to react we have been friends for 14 years. But i find myself distancing myself from her more and more.

Its simple!! She feels you are leaving her behind. She feels like she will lose you and not have a role in your new life. Think about what you always did together. Probably has a lot focused on food. She is afraid because you cannot eat and be the way you do now with each other.

Your welcome. I hope you can work things out with your friend. One thing with this surgery you need a support person or group. I love this site as I have learned a lot on here. If you have myfitnesspal you can add me if you want. Name is still the same. Picture is different as I have my grandbaby on here the reason behind my decision to have this surgery

Do this for you and for your kids and hope she sticks with you. 14 years is a long friendship. There may be bumps coming up but I pray it works out for both of you as we always needs friends. You being aware of what she is probably feeling even if she is not aware of it herself will help you..

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
