I was allowed to have coffee-- Ask your Nut or Doctor if they allow it on the Pre-Op diet, each Dr. is different.

I'm weaning my self off coffee because I won't have anyy for the day of surgery and I will get a headache if I don't.

decaf during pre-op worked for me

If you didn't have any issues with coffee before pre op period you won't have pre or postoperative period. Coffee is probably not recommended but I had it almost right after surgery and it felt so good. Eating to fast is my problem not the coffee.

I weaned myself off regular coffee and am now doing decaf so I won't have a rebound headache when I can't have it anymore. I find that I actually feel better throughout the day when I don't have caffeine in the morning...shocker!!

I can have coffee and tea on my preop diet, but what I've been doing is just putting about 1/4 cup in my premier protein shake so in addition to getting my 30gm of protein, I'm 1) getting a little caffeine and 2) changing up the taste of the drink. Works for me!
