**WARNING*** DONT DRINK PLAIN WATER ONLY. some of you know ive been having dizzy spells over the past few months. been to the ER where they told me nothing was wrong and sent me home. well a week later i was dizzy again, yesterday got really bad i had to leave work and go back to the dr. i guess it depends on who the dr is because this dr not only read my labs from the ER, but told me it popped up clearly my potassium levels are very low hummmmmmmmm the ER dr just sent me on my way, and the cold part is he didnt even send the results to my primary dr, member services will be contacted. so what i put together after my visit is 1. my bp meds is a water pill. 2. i drink more than a gallon of water daily, **note** i only drink water occasionally coffee or tea , but only plain water, so this morning god spoke to me, yes god for the believers. said drink some gatorade along with the potassium pills i was prescribed. so i am on my way to the store now to get some and add it to my water intake. be careful dont just drink plain water especially if you take bp meds.

The water didn't give you the low potassium, the antihypertensives did. You shouldn't warn ppl against drinking water!!! Some may not know the process and misunderstand what your saying.

I am a firm believer in the Lord speaking to us. Glad you heard the word!! Yes, gatorade is a staple in my frig and I partake of it at least once a day. Hydration is important and it has some impor

  • I was getting leg cramps or tingling especially in my left leg. Started reading an found that runners drink gator ade or power ade so they don't get leg cramps. It's lack of potassium. Before surgery

I've been drinking the low-cal Gatorade lately because I just can't bring myself to drink enough plain water. The Gatorade has more carbs than I'd like, but right now I figure staying hydrated is more important!

I lightly salt my water and have been for past 6 months for my adrenal issues. Goes down easier than plain water or I make sun tea. Adding a fresh lemon slice helps too.

I understood its oral pills. Still its pretty heavy duty stuff. Plenty of other options. I'm also shocked at the amount you were given .

Not just water!

It's important that you remain hydrated after weight loss surgery... you must drink FLUIDS (preferably, low calorie ones such as unsweetened, caffeine-free herbal tea) but not just Water.

If you only drink water, you may develop electrolyte abnormalities such as water intoxication syndrome.

Talk with your team for recommendations specific to you, but usually no more than half of your fluids should be water.

found this in an article

This is a very dangerous thread. The original poster stated she was on blood pressure meds at the time. Considering she also required potassium supplement with the bp med I assume it was a combo bp diuretic which means it was half a Water pill. That alone can cause significant electrolyte imbalances.

For 20 years I worked as a certified emergency room nurse. I have never once seen anyone come in with an electrolyte disturbance because they drank 64 ounces of water. That is 8 glasses 8 ounces each. That is recommended for everybody not just wls patients. Suggesting people take additional potassium is dangerous if they are on medications that affect potassium. Some drugs retain potassium. Adding in gatorade may seem harmless but its not for everybody.

The people who have been treated for too much water are those with congestive heart failure or SIADH or diabetes insipdus or dialysis patients. Please take a moment to inquire with your treating medical team before taking any "medical" advice on this or any other site. I know its well meaning but doesn't mean it can't harm someone.

Sorry for sounding harsh I'm just super concerned.

nursebarbie just sharing the article i didnt write it. and where were you when i need you man

There's a lot of conflicting information out there. I just don't want people to think its not ok to drink water. It is much better than drinking artificially sweetned drinks. Too many chemicals. Sun tea with fresh lemons or sliced oranges is also really good.

Body Armor Lyte (Peach Mango is just, oh my god) is very low calorie with zero sugar added. There are other flavors, of course. There is ONE problem: slightly high in carbohydrates ? But, if diluted or perhaps one 8-10oz bottle per day or every other, just to take the water edge off has worked for me in conjunction with exercise. Good luck!

PS- 530mg of Potassium per serving!
