3 days post op. Need more protein

I'm 3 days post op. Can I have applesauce? I'm trying to get in my protein. What's some good shakes? Am I allowed smoothies?

Follow your doctors plan. At only 3 days out I wouldn't worry so much about protein. Work on getting in your water. Congrats and good luck!

Melanie, do you have a nutritionist?

Usually, things like applesauce are part of the pureed or mushy food stage, which doesn't come along for a week or two post-op. I can send you a copy of what my nutritionist has her patients do, but I don't want to contradict what your own NUT might say.

Agree. Concentrate on clear liquids so you don't become dehydrated per my Nut.

My doctor has me on clear liquids only no protein shakes for the first week. I did get some unjury unflavored protein to add to my broth. I think the first week is about getting your liquids in.

What she said! I actually had the wrong paperwork and so the first week I was not concentrating on protein at all but rather just getting my fluids and my surgeon was fine with it. It is very hard at first, just do what you can and keep track and try hard to add it as you can. Of course, your nutritionist and doctor are your ultimate advisors. Good luck.
