Sharp Chest Pain & Blurry Vision - Post op 5/20/13

Recommended Posts

I just had surgery on 5/20/13 after a six month process of researching what procedure would be best for me. The sleeve won, by a long shot. So now that surgery is over, I'm having some difficulty with some of the side effects and pain. Now, mind you, I have had four c-sections so I'm no stranger to pain. But it literally feels like I'm swallowing razor blades every time I drink anything. I've tried warm, cold, and room temp to see if anything helps, but to no avail. I'm assuming it's gas, so along with walking I am also taking Gas-X strips. Any other suggestions?

I'm actually scared to start eating pureed foods next week, if it already hurts this bad with just liquids.

What does you Dr. say about this? Sure doesn't sound right does it! I'm a week out from surgery with no problem,(except for the fact they sent me home with that drainage tube still in and it won’t come out until Friday) I'm on a full liquid diet, not sure for how long but it doesn’t matter. I have the mind-set that whatever or however I’m in this “forever” and I’ll get it done. Do talk to you Dr asap. You shouldn’t be hurting like that.

I did call doctor and he said it's an occasional side effect with the medication (the blurry vision), and the chest pain is supposedly just gas. My next appointment is next Thursday, so I guess we'll set if I can make it until then.

I'd try and get into the dr sooner if you don't think it's gas. Chest pain was my only leak symptom. And don't worry about waiting for soft food! Don't push yourself.

I agree, I would see the dr earlier.

Lizv123,

Speaking of leak symptoms......what did they do to find your leak and what did they do to fix it?

YeahYeahYeah, I would want to see the doc and get a leak ruled out. Are you on a PPI?

It hurt me at 1st also.. Try something other than Water, crystal light for example .. Or sugar free Popsicle - maybe even I've chips.

My gas was awful-- it hurt in my shoulders right down to my backside! Keep walking , and when sitting Try to keep moving your legs up into your belly to move it..

It will get better - good luck

To see the initial abscess they did a CT scan in the ER. The next morning I had emergency exploratory surgery that showed nothing. Several scans, barium swallows, and an upper GI later, the swelling went down and the hole was visible. Strict NPO and TPN, in the hospital for a month.

Holy crap, in the hospital for a month? My home would disintegrate without me for that long. I'm hoping that it's something simple.....it just doesn't feel like it though. I'm pretty tough, but this brings me to tears when I swallow anything. (crossing my fingers)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
