I want to check in with my May 2012 sleeve buddies. Where y'all at? How are you doing? 2 more months to our big 1 year surgiversary!

My stats:

5'7. Starting weight: 338

DOS (5-18-12): 288

Current weight: 195

Total lost: 143 pounds.

From a jeans size 30 to a size 11/12, tops 30/32 to a LG!

Corset trunkplasty is planned for 1 week after my surgiversary. Plastic surgeon estimates 15-18 pounds of skin & fat will come off my stomach alone & will take me from a 12/14 to a 6/8.

This is the best decision I've ever made for myself!

I can NOT be the only person sleeved in May of 2012. Any ideas how to find my sleeve buddies?

Well we thin out as time goes by, and not just in the weight dept. I'm a May 2011 sleever. I rarely see my May 2011 buddies on the boards. I've been at goal for a year now and looking forward to my second annual post-op checkup and bloodwork.

Thanks Lynda. It makes me sad that I can't locate more of my May 2012 sleeve buddies. How long did it take you to get to goal? And how is maintenance?

I love maintenance! It took about 9 months to get to goal, but I had less than 100 to lose post-op. The info is in my sig line.

I have to be careful now because I can eat more and I have more "bad for you" foods now that I am maintaining. I weigh every day. I have a range of 5 lbs. If I go over that, I cut out all Snacks and eat lower-calorie foods till I drop back to my goal weight.

I still measure my food most of the time. Sometimes I wing it. I don't track unless I am feeling out of control. I've gotten there a few times, mostly around holidays when so much food is around.

As for the oldies we started with, try the Vets thread. I know many people move on with their lives and leave the group, but for me, I know I will have a lifetime issue with watching what I eat, so this group is fabulous for me.

I'm May 2012 sleever too! May 10, 2012. Started at 255, reached my goal of 145 by New Year's Eve. As of March I got down to 126 lbs and I am done losing. I make sure to eat enough not to lose weight, even if it means putting in some higher calorie lower density food each day.

I had plastic surgery already, a facelift, Tummy Tuck, and thigh lift. I still am planning on having a lift/aug, but I want time to get in shape after having to take time off for my previous surgeries. Right now I am really concentrating on fitness. I have a goal of unassisted pull-ups by my birthday, which is in October. I'm working on my arms - and all the rest of me - and will do my best to reach the goal.

Hey, I'm a May 2012 sleever too:) May 28th is my one year. My top weight was 260, down to 238 before surgery and sitting at 168/170 for the past couple months. I'm wearing any where from a 9/to 11 jeans (29-31) and a med/lg shirts. Down from a 21/22 (41/42) jeans at my heaviest and a 3x :/

I'm feeling pretty happy where I'm at as far as my clothing size. The number on the scale I'm not in love with. Lol. But happy with my size (minus the extra skin). I have platued for some time know and my weight doesn't budge if I eat less or more or excersize or not. So this is where my body wants to be :).

I have booked my plastics for the end of July ( lower body lift and inner thigh lift) and am super excited about it. It is just about fine tuning now that I'm not worried about my health due to my weight. Lol.

I too have been wondering how all of the May 2012 folks have been. Great to see you guys are looking and feeling great :)

I have never posted a pic - and have said that I would wait until I was at goal to post one, but bah what the hey - these photos of myself and my dear husband (who also had vsg two weeks before me) are from right before surgery (May 8, 2012 - DH) and May 21, 2012 for myself. We are feeling great and hubby is working hard on building muscle and fitness, and I am still losing and also upping the exercise. I still have about 25 lbs to go to get to the upper range of my goal at 140 - which is a healthy BMI.

Not great at adding images but here goes.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
