  1. Thank you for the advice I'm just back from my doctors and they've given me some meds for the stomach cramps and to take paracetamol. She told me to bear with it and it should go within a few days I really hope so as it's just awful.
  2. Hi everyone sorry I don't post very often but I need some urgent advice. I'm 16 months out and over the weekend I came down with horrendous diarrhoea, hot and cold sweats and the chills. I thought it would go away and have hardly eaten anything in 3 days but it's got worse and worse and now I can barely move and have to get to the bathroom every half hour or so and it's just water coming out now. But I have horrible stomach cramps and feel wretched also constantly thirsty. I'm seeing my GP this morning but I just know they won't understand the surgery I've had and why having this problem is scary when you only have 15% of your stomach. I would be grateful for any advice please, and now I'm not even making it to the bathroom in time ????
  3. So you don't think I've got reactive hypoglycemia? Sorry a bit confused as I'm not oregnant I'm 48 and a year post op these symptoms only came on a few weeks ago and this is what another experienced sleever said I had and fits my symptoms. I will ask my GP for a blood monitor when I see her next week and as I'm in the uk I hope they supply it on the NHS even though I'm a self pay bariatric patient.
  4. It is scary instant it RJ? I really can't bear the thought of this being a long term complication of the sleeve and hope we can get some real help and advice on how to manage it. As you say if it happens in a public place or behind the wheel it's awful.
  5. I have no idea what my blood glucose levels are as I have no way of checking as have no monitor? I'm hoping my GP will be able to do some bloods and give me some help with this as it really is so debilitating and ruins my entire day even after the initial symptoms have finished I still feel terrible for hours after. Worse news is my surgeon's office have just cancelled my 1 year review appointment next week as he has an urgent surgery to do and will reschedule me for some time in the future but when I told them about this new condition they suggested I make an appointment with the team dietician. I really do want a medical opinion too though so still seeing GP next week but their knowledge of this surgery isn't great from what I've experienced so far they just constantly refer to guidelines they have about Gastric Bypass.
  6. I have never had Hypoglycemia before nor have I ever been Diabetic. I have previously been diagnosed as insulin resistant but since my sleeve surgery a year ago I have recently developed the symptoms and have had a number of scary 'hypo' episodes when commencing exercise especially in the morning. This is causing me great concern, I didn't sign up for this surgery to become sicker than I was before it. I hope I can get some help on how to manage the symptoms as from what I've read up about, many bariatric patients end up developing reactive hypoglycaemia which I had no idea about until I started getting the symptoms. Does anyone know how best to deal with this? I want to be able to exercise but for the last few weeks I've been unable to manage much before the sweats, the shakes, and feeling like I'm going to pass out, and worse I want to eat!! My weightloss is at a stall, nearly 2 months and no change. Would appreciate any guidance. Please also be aware that this problem occurs to many many Bariatric patients quite often some time after their surgery and from what I've read there is no cure, just guidelines to manage it. Essentially though our Pancreas are delivering too much insulin into our bodies which is what causes the hypo. I'm seeing my surgeon next week for my 1 year review and my GP next week for bloods to see if there is any help I can get for this condition.
  7. Hi I've just been searching for this topic as I've recently realised I have just started showing symptoms of Reactive Hyplogylcemia. I'm exactly one year post-op sleeve surgery and I had no idea us sleevers could suffer these symptoms. I'm a vegetarian so trying to cut out carbs has been a huge challenge for me and must admit that recently they have come back into my diet and my weightloss has also stalled. I now find that if I try and exercise in the mornings I have a massive hypo attack, the shakes, sweating, low blood sugar, feel like I'm going to faint, need to sit down and then an urgency to eat something. I then continue to feel terrible for the rest of the day like I'm all washed out and very tired even though I've done almost nothing. This is a very worrying new complication of the sleeve surgery that I did not sign up for and I'm trying to find out as much as possible about the condition so I can learn how to manage it. I'm confused as to whether I need to cut the carbs or increase them? I've been eating about 1,000 calories a day but burning around 2,700 cals per day (I wear a BodyMedia monitor so I know exactly what I'm using). I'm now really worried about this new development.. I'm seeing my surgeon next week for my one year review, I will be asking about this as from what I've researched, it seems as though there are a lot of people post bariatric surgery complaining of the problem and not much can be done from what I know??. Mine so far has been manageable but I am very worried it might get worse and I've read some people having their Pancreases removed which seems very extreme!. Any help or advice would be gratefully received. Prior to surgery I had PCOS, under-active thyroid and had been told years ago that I was insulin resistent but I never had diabetes. I must say, had I known about this complication it would have made me consider very carefully whether I should do this? Please has anyone any advice as it is worrying me a lot??

  9. You need to lose another 60 lbs? That's seems a lot for your current weight although I don't know your height. I'm 5'5 and still weigh 190 and I'm aiming at 147 goal weight so that's 40+ pounds to go. At the rate I'm going it will be a long road!
  10. How incredibly tragic I am so sorry for your suffering and for your loss. I lost a loved one and the pain is breathtaking just as you describe I really hope you get the support and love you will need in these difficult times ahead. Thinking of you and thank you for sharing such wise words with us how kind of you. Please come back soon xx
  11. Surgery date: 21 May 2013 SW: 260 CW: 197 Feeling happy losing slowly but I'm ok with that most of the time.
  12. Ok thanks I took mine this morning and then had a cup of tea so was worried I had messed up my meds when I need it most.
  13. Thanks a quick question is it ok to have a cup of tea shortly after taking my meds or should I have a completely empty stomach before and after taking it? Thank you.
  14. This makes me cross, since when did it become socially acceptable to ask people thy barely know what they weigh and what they want to weigh!? That's between you and your doctor. I personally wouldn't dignify them with a response nosy blighters!!
  15. I am very sore and now have a cough as the acid attack I had 2 nights ago has burned my throat and left me with a hoarse voice. This is dreadful news for me as I have a full gig Diary and I am now worried sick that I'll step on stage tonight ready to sing for 2 hours but nothing will come out! I've been on my PPI's since the attack but sadly the damage is done and I'm left with this this cough and a burned throat. I really should be resting my voice but I've got to work tonight and just hope I can get through the gig without damaging my voice by forcing myself to sing when it's been burned. Feeling miserable
  16. I know how you feel Eggs I'm from the UK and we were told to eat 'normally' but in very small amounts that's it! My surgeon doesn't believe on protein shakes or protein bars and he put me on soft foods from waking up!
  17. Yes my surgeon is quite emminent here in the UK and does a lot of tv work about bariatric surgery he's well respected in the field. As for my acid it hasn't got much better all day I have a very sore and painful throat and dreading tonight I'm going to sleep slightly propped up. Errhh I really hope this goes away soon!
  18. I'm nearly 8 months post-op and have just spent the worst night ever with my first ever experience of acid reflux it's awful!! Acid burning right up into my throat all night and now I have a croaky painful throat. This is bad in so many ways not least because I'm a singer and I really cannot have my voice affected by this. I rang my provider and they started me on 20mg Omeprazole a PPI morning and night. I have tried chewing on gaviscone in between and still have a really burning throat. I've got a gig in 2 days from now and I am croaking! Will I be ok in time now I've started on the meds does anyone know?
  19. Yes he's lovely and we mostly seem to talk about music as I'm a singer in a band and he plays guitar. He instantly gives you confidence that you have done the right thing.
  20. I hope you all had a wonderful NYE! I've just got in from playing a gig for 350 party goers and a good time was had by all apart from the fact that I am definitely feeling this 2 glasses of wine infact it feels like 5 glasses pre-surgery! Woah. Anyway we rocked the place and the rest of my band (males) all commented how good I looked which made me feel a million dollars! Thank you sleeve! Off to bed now as feeling a bit worse for wear!
  21. I'm 47 and never worn jeans... Well not as an adult anyway. I've lost some weight since surgery 6 months ago but I still need to lose a fair bit more. I go into clothes shops and automatically look at dresses as I feel most comfortable in leggings Dresses and boots don't even take a second glance at the jeans. I'm now in a uk size 16 which I think is a US size 12? But still don't feel ready to try jeans they will be too tight, my legs and thighs will be enormous and I won't be able to breathe in them. I just can't imagine even trying them on as it will be a body failure I reckon.
  22. I am right there with you! I'm 6 months out and only 55lbs down and in the last 3 weeks I have lost nothing at all. It's very scary as we automatically assume we are going to fail at this like we have every other attempt lose weight. But we can do it even if it takes us another whole year. Let's hang in there x
  23. My mum lost my dad 4 years ago and had been adapting to living alone and finding it very hard actually. She used to be very careful about her flood intake and was always watching her weight now she lives for food and has gradually been gaining weight. She's only 5'1 so even putting on the 30 or so pounds she's gained really shows and now she breathes really heavy going upstairs and her general health has declined. She's now 73 and has developed asthma and lately if she goes on any long walks she becomes bowel incontinent! I'm so worried about her. She's watched me lose weight and cut down my food intake since my surgery and now she jokes that she's picked up where I left off. She's now paying large health bills to have her incontinence investigated as its horrible for her but I wonder if her weight gain might have something to do with it? I'm also now paying to have her house cleaned as she's stopped doing it and with a little dog it needs to be done! It's so sad. I can't suggest this surgery to her she often says she lives for her meals now what a sad situation.
