tums post op?

I just had my surgery yesterday and im at home now. The meds they gave me to take home are anti nausea and pain killers. I keep gettin what feels like hunger pains... are tums ok to take???

I was given Prilosec to start first day home. I think it's OTC. The dr had me open them up for the first 2 weeks. Ppi 's are better than antacids I believe is the popular thinking. But call your dr to be sure! Hope you feel better soon!!

and yes... Tums are fine.. I used them a lot post surgery... I also take generic Prilosec once or twice per day if needed.

I eat Tums like candy because Omeprazoles once or twice a day don't really help me. You will be fine to eat them. The high dose 1000mg ultra is my best friend all day and as soon as I lay down.

My surgeon advised me to stay away from Tums. While they are good for short-term, they actually cause more acid in the long-term.

I had acid really bad and Pantozol didn't work for me. My surgeon put me on Prilosec morning and night and Zantac in the afternoon. Maybe that would help you?

Thanks!!! I called my drd this morning and im taking generic prilosec in the morning and tums if needed throughout the day if needed. So we will see how that works.

i was having no acid until 5 weeks out one week ago....this is horrible...anyone havebad andthen get relief or this New normal? it's so bad makes me want to to a gastric bypass...i hear that fixes it!
