Constipated... What else can I do? TMI

So I have been doing great post sleeve up until the last 2 days. I was having a BM every other day since surgery up until about 5 days ago. It has been 5 days since my last BM and I am getting seriously backed up to the point that its very painful. I have been taking a stool softener, milk of magnesia and today my first suppository. Nothing seems to be working and I seriously feel I might hurt myself if I try and push it out.

Any other ideas?

Once this passes what should I be doing/easting to prevent this from happening again?

I know I need more Fiber in my diet but can anyone give me some examples... I don't want to add to many carbs to my diet so please keep that in mind.

thank you

Ok personally been dealing with this since surgery so my doc said to drink miralax for a few weeks to try to get back on track and drink more fluids that dehydration can cause this

Todays was -

a few frozen grapes

a few slices of frozen banana

a slice of fresh pineapple (including the core)

1/2 scoop unflav Protein powder

handful of fresh spinach

tbsp chia seeds

Water

and ice

Blitzed in the vitamix. Was great!

Because of all the fibre a little bit of fruit goes a long way.

True that. making sure you get enough Fluid is the first box to check.

I am happy to announce that as of an hour ago I won that battle and finally feel relief... was getting a little nervous especially with the though of my doctor having to manually clean me out lol.

I know it can't be a lack of Water because I drink at least 100oz a day. I am going to continue with the MOM for a little while till I feel regulated, incorporate chia seeds in my Protein drinks and try and come up with some type of daily "green" shake.

How do you prep your chia seeds for your shakes... do you soak them first? Do you think added them to my morning and post workout Protein Shakes might be enough to cure the constipation?

Get it out! That **** is dangerous! Literally! Don't mess around with that stuff! Lol...I have had patients die from that sh.. So get it out!

Hahahaaaa! Not pleasant, but sometimes its got to be done. And also, it's going to be a nurse who disimpacts you :)

Yes, do soak the chia seeds in water first. I have found 20 minutes to be a good soaking time, but also go by a simple rule. If the seeds stop moving or resettling immediately after shaking them up in a blender cup, then I know they are ready to mix with Protein powder. I hope that makes sense. If you use them before gelling, I found out they do not work as well or at all with the "going issue." They will just pass right through and that will seem like a waste. Pun intended. I have found it best to use chia seeds in my morning shake, just because there is more time for me to wait for the seeds to gel and it gives me time to drink about 32 oz in 30 minutes before drinking the shake. Drinking water before chia seeds is important to prevent dehydration. You can drink water after the chia seeds, but that has the issue of flushing the seeds through your system too fast. Again, you do not want this because it will not be the optimal use of the seeds.

I see people saying they are drinking 100 oz of water a day...I am 4 days post op and my Dr told me 60ml of clear fluids every 2 hours for the next 3 weeks...and he wasn't concerned about protein. This doesn't seem right based on everything I've been reading. Can you please tell me what you've been eating from 4 days post op and on

I had surgery 3 years ago and I have had lots of trouble with constipation. The thing that worked the very best for me was the yogurt Activia. 1 a day does the trick.

I think your Dr just wants you to focus on getting your fluids in. At 4 days out I was literally only drinking gatoraid, thats it. No broth, protein nothing. Just tons of water and gatoraide. On my 5th day is when I had my Protein shake and started logging my calories, protein and carbs. I think a week out I was already drinking 2 shakes a day and a few cups of Soup.

You need to call you doctor and clarify what he expects you do eat.

Yeah, she just wrote on another thread that her doctor told her only 1oz of fluids an hour??

Does that sound crazy??

Oh and awesome about the um, you know...
