I am getting Essure inserted on Feb 5th and I was wondering if anyone has it? If so I would love to know how you like it and what your experience has been with it.

I am using Nuvaring now, but I really don't want to deal with hormonal birth control anymore. I decided on Essure after I had 2 pregnancies (and miscarriages) with the Paraguard IUD and a 3rd pregnancy (and miscarriage) recently because my Mirena went missing. My hubby was going to just get a vasectomy but our insurance copay is $300 for it and $0 for Essure.

I am really hoping Essure will be the perfect solution; but I don't hear about it much.

I had that procedure done in August 2011. It was the worst experience I had went through....lets just say the pain was so bad I would rather have natural childbirth! They give you so much pain meds befire the procedure that you will be high for 2 days straight so I hope someone will be with you for 2 days! I dont know if you want me to explain what they do but its awful and painful and I would never recommend it to anyone. My doc made it sound like the easy way out and it definitely was not!

Wow! Im sorry you had such a horrible experience. That sounds just awful! I have read that some people have easy breezy no pain experiences and some people have excruciating pain. With all those pain meds they gave you, does that mean the doc did your procedure in office? My doc said they are doing mine at the hospital and I will be under general anesthesia, which I was sad about at first, but now maybe I am happy about it. Was it just the procedure that was painful or is the Essure still painful? Sorry for all the questions...I just want to know all I can.

They did mine in the office with no anesthesia. They gave me 2 Xanax to calm my nerves, 2 percocet for pain, a shot in my hip for pain, and a suppository that had pain meds in it. I could barely even walk into the room to get on the table. The actual procedure was excruciating and i felt everything, I cried the whole time. I havent had problems after the surgery but u need to be really careful for 3 months to make sure u dont get pregnant. If my doc would have done it in the hospital under anesthesia it wouldnt have been an issue.

Oh my gosh! That sounds like TORTURE! I feel for you! They should NOT do it that way! Now I am REALLY glad they are putting me under for it! When you went back for the xray to make sure your tubes had closed off what did they do? Thank you so much for sharing your experience with me

They just insert this little thing inside you and put dye in it. It doesnt hurt at all!

I had the procedure done in 2009. I was put to sleep when mine was done and it was covered by my insurance. There was not any pain afterwards just the usual cramps from my cycle which did last about three weeks.

Thanks for the suggestion! I looked it up since I didn't know anything about it and who wouldn't love to not have a period (without hormones causing it). What I found said they do the ablation to the endometrial lining of the uterus to help people who have very excessive periods and dont want to have a hysterectomy and that you still have to use birth control. Maybe there is a specific kind that works for birth control? I looked up tubal ablation and then everything that popped up was endometrial ablation so I assumed thats what it was called...but maybe I looked up the wrong thing.

I had an ablation and even though you don't get your period you still ovulate. I had my tubes tied at the same time as falling pregnant after ablation can be extremely serious, even cause death.

I had mine done in Aug 2009. I worked all day went to the appt at 3:30. They numbed my cervix which felt like the pinching of a Pap smear. I was awake & watched the whole thing. Once it was over, they gave me a pain pill and I did start cramping. It feels like contractions because your uterus is contracting back to its original size (they fill it with water). I went home & went to sleep & worked a full day the next day. It was so simple, I couldn't believe it.

I also had the ablation 2 years later, which didn't work. The pain from the ablation was 10 times worse than the Essure.

I have essure since 2007. I love it. i was also put to sleep. I had some pain (cramping) the day after, but it was all good after that. I haven't had any problems with it periods are the same as before. I had blue cross so I didnt have a copay. I have 6 kids and don't want anymore. Essure is the perfect solution

OMG! I would have never let them do that without putting me to sleep. You are a strong woman. You should have kicked your Doc in the face

I had the ablation done 2 years ago... If you're certain you are done bearing children, I HIGHLY recommend it.... Like the sleeve, I wish I would have done it years ago.....

Do you have to have certain issues to get an ablation or can you just walk into the gyno and say you want it? What was the healing like? I may consider this later after my Essure is healed
