I waited a month but I'm 64. I'm over a year out and still baby my stomach muscles. Having a less than perfect gut is better than hernias. When I do push-ups it is still delicate.

About two weeks for me. Since it was a laparoscopic surgery the weight lifting restrictions were very short. They advised me not to go overboard right away, but that was more a concern for me passing out than harming something.

My doctor said I can lift weights in 4 weeks. I'm on tread mill now walking for 10 to 15 min a day.
