Hurrican Sandy

Hello, all! I am located on Long Island where we were hit pretty hard by the hurricane. We are going on day 8 without power, and a lot of our grocery stores don't have any perishable items (meats, produce, dairy). This mixed in with the fact that we have no power to cook our own food has led to a disastrous week of eating for me! My meal times are random, I kinda pick and graze when I have access to food, I have only been able to get about half of my daily protein if I'm lucky (again, no meat and no way to cook it, anyway), and we've been living off of the few restaurants that have power...for example, pizza and Chinese. I try to get the healthiest options from those places, but those options are limited. Luckily the gym has been open so I've been hitting that often, but as far as food, it's been so easy to say, "we just had a hurricane, I have no power, few food options, it's fine if I eat (insert carby food here)". I can't wait until things return to normal!

Oh, and this is actually Linds324...I'm using my moms iPad and I forgot to sign her out!

I can't wait until things return to normal for you either. My thoughts are with you and the others affected by the storm.

You are really facing temptation! In addition to the lack of food choices, you have a lot of stress. I empathize with you.

The way I see it is, you are so lucky to be alive right now.....It's very difficult to make good food choices when you can't cook or keep perishables in the refrigerator. Eating out isn't so bad if you can be picky and choosey. I take pizza and eat the topping off of it and discard the majority of the dough. If you can get cheese at a store, then that's also a good choice. You have done so far and the electric should come back on really soon. Then you get back to the healthy eating. Hang in there and God be with you all.....
