Diet Coke Junkies

Did you slowly give it up pre op or just cold turkey after surgery? I am 28 days away from surgery and have cut down but not out all the way.

  • I gave mine up pre-op, cutting down one at a time until I was off it. Caffeine was my hardest addiction to break pre-op. I've been decaffeinated since then. I drank a lot of decaf iced tea and water w

  • I used to drink Diet Coke all the time, now I drink caffine free Diet Coke after it has gone flat. That way I get my Diet Coke fix and my belly is happy.

  • I'm down to one (lovely, wonderful) Vanilla Coke Zero every morning! I knew caffeine was going to be difficult for me to break up with, so I started VERY slowly weaning after finding out from the NUT

I weaned myself down, first caffeine free, and then totally. I am now 7 weeks post op and I still dont care for any liquids at all. I dont drink diet coke beause I know the flat version wouldn't do it so it's not worth it but it is the one thing I miss more than anything after 2 months out. I'm tired of being thirsty and nothing quenches and I cant get enough of any liquid. Good luck.

I hope you are able to drink more liquids soon so you don't get dehydrated. How are you feeling post op? flat version just doesn't cut it. I am realizing what a habit it is to just grab a diet coke without thinking. I really struggle with that rather than the actual drink itself, besides the caffeine withdraw.

Not yet sure when my surgery will be but I am on day 3 of no Coke. It's killing me lol. I figured I had to do it early so that it's not a problem later. I did the weaning thing as well. I only had one or two a day before but weaned myself down and now none. I miss them so.

Way to go on day 3!!

Today was my first caffeine free day since probably high school! I was so sleepy and foggy headed. LOL

I hope you survived today. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. It look like we will have surgery one week apart and close to the same starting weight. Keep in touch and let me know how your insurance approval goes.

I survived yesterday, but just barely! LOL I was definitely not on my A Game. :o

I yawned about 6000 times yesterday and was SO goofy. I felt like I couldn't string together a sentence!!! BUT, I didn't really have a headache or feel bad physically. Yay!

Confession: I had 1/2 of one this morning bc I have to conduct interviews today. ;)

I agree that giving up my daily (or thrice daily) Diet Coke/Pepsi is going to be one of the hardest things to do. I have done like a few others and have recently made the slow weaning switch to caffeine free. I tried drinking a flat one today and wound up dumping half of it so maybe I am on my way!

Hi, my name is Valerie, and I am a DP addict. I had a 6 pack + a day DP addiction, started cutting down 3 weeks ago. DP free for one week. Love Vitamin Water zero

I was addicted to DP. I quit cold turkey the day my preop diet started. Haven't missed it at all actually. In fact, I'd hate to taste it at this point (preop started 8/21, sleeved 9/4). My husband & I have given up soda many times cold turkey & slowly go back to them after a few months. I just don't see that happening now bc of how uncomfortable I would imagine it would be on my tummy.
