Hi I am on day two of liquids. Nothing specific. Day to day thats all you can do. Use a calendar to cross off the days and you'll gain more strength and determination each day until finally surgery day!! My surgery is in 9 days!!

You may star getting a headache don't worry it will pass. I spent a lot of time on this site to pre-occupy my mind from food and also learned a lot. Just do our best. Good luck

For those of you that are starting today there are a few things to remember.

The first few days are the hardest. When you hit day 4 you will notice a little more spring your step. Day 2 & 3 a lot of people get a little tiny headache, drink more Water and whatever you do, keep busy.

If you walk around telling yourself you are starving or that this sucks, you will, of course feel hungrier and it will start sucking.

Another thing that is important to know, liquid in, liquid out. As you know eventually your bodily functions will change a bit. I suggest if you do go places, take notice of bathrooms. This is usually about day 4-7. There are threads and you may have noticed comments "never trust a fart", there are reasons for this.

This doesn't last all 14 days, but this is something that happens after surgery for the first few weeks. Some people have a harder time going, and for some it's the liquid in and liquid out deal. Eventually you go back to being regular.

I stayed busy, I continued exercising (I did the gazelle twice a day during the 14 day pre-op) and I did a lot of walking.

The biggest thing to remember is that during this 14 day time, you are probably getting better nutrition than you had before, because this has all your Vitamins and minerals and you are not literally starving to death, because you are getting the nutrition you need.

Best of luck and stay positive and it will go by fast!

You're doing so well - great job!!

I'm on day.. (where am i?).. 4. The mornings are always easier for me in terms of how I feel. I make my own shake with ice (Shakeology) and am ok until around mid-day. Then the mental fog sets in. I heard around day 4 that you're supposed to feel a ton better, and I'm not sure that I do yet. I feel like I'm outside my body, not really present. Yes, I am aware that I am speaking like a complete alien, but I feel that way! Ah! :)

The first two days I had the worst headaches (carb withdrawal, luckily cut out caffeine months ago). And I already "cheated" with a few bites of grilled chicken each on those first two days.

Every time I'm having a particularly tough moment with the all liquids, I come to this forum. It does help, but I feel like I'm struggling so much more with the pre op than other people have mentioned. I guess my will power and addiction to food (both physically and emotionally) are just coming to a head. I'm just willing the 10 days I have left to pass by as quickly as possible but I admit that this is really really hard for me!

I'm going for my VSG with Dr Alvarez on Aug 28th. Already down 11 pounds in just two days....nothing like Water weight. I am on day 12 of my liquids and I am at a resort and spa. Since I've been here I have eaten 5 chips a half a tablespoon of guacomole*spelling a tablespoon of pico de gao lastnight. This morning 2 slices of Bacon and a table spoon of eggs. My Dr. said I could eat a little while I was here and I think I have done that, but my husband was so angry when I told him that this morning. I think I have only eaten a little whY do you guys think. Surgery is Tuesday 14th.

Hi everyone,

Kinda graphic....

I'm on day 4....no wait....day 5, of a 14 day all liquids w 4oz lean meat & a veggie in the PM. I agree with the poster who wrote that i'm feeling 'out of body.'. Kinda weird. And headachy.

What's stopping me from cheating is the fear of Constipation after surgery!! :-). So i want to clear & clean out my system. I had major surgery 2x with two knee replacements & got constipated. Last thing i want after this surgery is an enema or having to swallow more pills with an achey esophagus. :-) now, that's motivation!

Keep up the good work everyone!! We CAN do this!!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
